I have never been a lover of seatbelts due to a mate rolled his 309 GTI with me as a passenger 9 years ago. The car rolled 4 times. Fireman said I would have died if I was wearing a seat belt as the passenger A piller and roof caved in and would have crushed me due to being held in. I was thrown into the back because I was not wearing a belt.

This video has made me think .....maybe I should start wearing one!!

so you think that 1/1000 situation mens thats its best not to wear a seatbelt for the other 999/1000 situations where the seatbelt would save your life?

i don't get why people try and use that argument as GCSE maths is compulsary in this country

I always wear a seatbelt and actually refuse to drive anywhere if the girl friend doesn`t belt up. However saying that, 2 lads crashed a fortnight ago behind my house at 113 MPH. Driver who was wearing a belt died at the scene but the passenger who wasn`t wearing one survived with only a broken arm and a sore head.

huh, modern technology hey! I just thought they would have took an average and rounded it to say 110 or 115, didnt realise it was down to the exact 1mph.

must be high tech stuff!

shame about the driver, tho even if he was driving a bit too quick.

I dont think.....I know on that particular day it saved my life.

As for the GCSE maths......have a word with yourself using 1/1000 and all that. Must say though you must like your maths, spelling.....hmmm, did you mean 'situation means' ??

its not my spelling its my typing, i do so rather quick with a high error rate

are you honestly saying that you believe you are SAFER not wearing a seatbelt?

if you go out for a drive right now, you'll CHOOSE not to wear one?

it is the most flawed anti-seatbelt argument there is, and whats worrying is that there are loads of people who beleive it and stick to it!

there is no way of knowing what kind of accident you are likely to be involved in, so why bet on the statistically improbable over the statistically likely?

it's like betting on a 200:1 horse down the track thinking "well, if it wins itll pay out good"

That doesn't automatically mean that he'd have died if he'd worn one, it was just the way the crash panned out... One inch to the left and there could have been a completely different conclusion.

Seatbelts have saved waaaaaaaaaaaay more lives than they've lost!

Geek seatbelt fact: Volvo invented the 3-point seatbelt, but deliberately didn't patent it so that other manufacturers could benefit from it.

No I 100% agree with you. I ALWAYS wear mine, and I make my passengers as well, just saying in that case it did save his life not wearing one.

i can't drive without mine on, just feels wrong, i know what people say about occassionally it may cause more injury, but in reality, it is a very low number compared to how many lives they save, imo your better of wearing it.

He is not saying that and never has you idiot; what he is stating is factual with no patronising comments needed. On the day of his accident, he was better off without the seatbelt. End of. Paul even said himself after watching the video he may start wearing one. By the way, just because you typed it incorrectly doesn't mean it's not a spelling mistake because it is. The word comes across spelt wrongly, so it is. Whether it was on purpose or not, is irrelevant.

I think you will find that most of these mental arabs dont wear seatbelts, something to do with making them look less of a man wearing one and if something should go wrong then its their time to go and a seatbelt shouldn't stop them from meeting their maker ! Some shite like that anyway as remember reading something about this a while back.

Buying the mondeo that i recently bought has been a good move for me as has that bastard annoying bing bing bing bing bing bing until you fasten your belt !! Am quite bad for not bothering to wear my belt and this stops me from being like that and forces me to put it on, just used to doing short journeys and not bothering to wear a seatbelt.

I can never see the argument either that it could hurt you one time in a million freak accident, but save you every other time, I prefer the odds of a seatbelt.
I won't allow anyone in the car unless they wear thiers, I have even let people walk as they wouldn't.
I like the saudi stuff, the accidents are ace entertainment, don't feel sorry for them though, anyone old enough to drive is old enough to know the score.
Anyone doing 113mph on a housing estate that dies is a blessing in disguise, think how much safer the roads are now without them for the innocent kids playing out, if it's a choice I prefer the morons to die anyday, rather than young innocent kids.

The thing is those who are saying, they only survived cos they wernt wearing a seat belt are forgetting the fact, theyre only here to say that out of PURE LUCK.

My mum was involved in a fatal RTA, and the chap who hit her wasnt wearing a belt. he went through the screen and cut his head off. serves the bastard right for speeding with balld tyres and being completly drunk tho!

Most of the stories ive read of people surviving with out a belt. the cars have been "OLD".

take a look at this current thread to see my point.
https://passionford.com/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=3756208

I havnt seen anyone saying they have survived a major crash in a modern car (ie post 97-98) and not wear a belt.....why cos they are all dead!!!

Modern cars with the saftey features of the shell and all the airbags, they are designed to work in conjunction with the seat belt.

like i said in a different thread last week, if an air bag goes of and u dont have a belt on, it will most likley break your neck and kill you.

IF you dont wear a belt, then you really are stupid. ANd even if you think your too "invincible" to wear one, surley the £60 fine and possible points may make you wear it.

I have to admit mine was luck. Looking back at the 309 GTI with its A pillar and roof crushed to the front passenger seat made me think that on that day I was lucky not to have worn one, even the Fireman said that.

I saw on TV the other day about airbags and not wearing seatbelts and the way they work together.

Again that back up my point, you were in a 309 gti. a car with old technology and little saftey features.

If that were a new peugeot, i dare say you wouldnt be here if u didnt have a belt.

yeh, Airbags go off at almost the same the speed of sound.

And they are designed to be at full inflation buy the time your lower belt has recoiled into the floor and the belt has stretched its full elastic distance before you face hits them.

with out the belt recoil pulling ur lap into the seat and the shoulder area holding you back, your face will get twatted at well over 500 mph buy a giant nylon bag and snap your neck.

A word was spelt incorrectly; whether this is because you cannot spell the word, or you mistyped the word, it still comes across to other forum members spelt incorrectly.

He also stated he may start wearing one.
