Default Whats a good first bike then??

As above, I have wanted one, legally, for years but have never pulled my finger out and got a licence.

I have rode a good few times on the roads on mates bikes which Ive borrowed. S plate Gixxer 600, Gixxer 750 (first of the SRAD shape) and a ZX7R Ninja being the most frequent.

Im not what Id class a "good" rider as not having all that much road experience but Im not a total novice on one.

Im going to book my theory, get that out the way, and then have a lesson to see how I get on and either book my test or jump into one of them intensive weeks courses.

My heart and soul is crying for an R1 but my head is saying "nooooooooooo you will die". Im thinking of a ZX7R as I used to like the ride of that but thought Id ask you lot your opinions seeing as most of you will have had a few different things.

Im 6ft 2" and 18.5 stone so not good on small bikes.

My first bike was a gsxr 600 k1, really fancied an r6 but was swayed towards the suzuki because there a bit smarter at that age.

big is best,..yes, or so i keep being told, haha, oh and dont for god sake buy an older 600 it will be slowass with your weight on it.. a newer 600 yea, might be worth it.
you could get a decent ZX7R 1996-7 for a little over 1K make you a great mint first bike.
also they aint slow with a bigger guy, you may need to change a few suspention bits for your size but if you need any advice then i can help with the kwaki..

I went for a GSXR 600 K5 for my first bike. More than enough power and handle really well. Ive now got a GSXR 750 K6 and thats just the perfect balance in my opinion. I personally dont like the thou's and can ride my 750 much quicker. The average rider will not be able to get the most from a thou on the road, and its almost always too much round tighter sections. Once you get going on the straights, then maybe, but the majority of the time a thou is just not necessary on the road. Id rather ring the nuts off a 750 and get there as quick if not quicker. It really depends on your riding style at the end of the day. I like to keep the revs high and be up and down the box for a more involving ride.

Many people own thou's purely to say they have the most powerful bike blah blah blah but 95% of them wont actually 'need' one, and thats why they seem very suprised to see a less powerful back up there backside.

good call, had one for a few years(sold it with 48k and still went very well) it was awesome, not the fastest but each time i wound the throttle back I would have a big smile on my face. An I4 is just not the same

Still regret selling it but dont ride the blade enough to warrant having 2 bikes but saying that will try and get another one as a second bike one day
