Hi guys, i've just bought an 1985 XR2 competition car that will be being used in the 750mc stockhatch championship next year. The car hasnt been used for the 18months.

I've put a new battery on the car, turn on the ignition and get the normal dash lights turn the key to start and nothing happens except a warning light with an ! mark. Anyone know what this light is? car doesnt turn over can't hear fuel pump. All fuses look ok, where are the relays located?

 

1. car doesn't have fuel pump
2. does the starting motor spin
3. make sure the ecu in the engine bay is all conneted up
4. put a live from battrey on to starter ignition wire see if it spins if it does the stater want a ignition live puting to it

 

Car doesnt have a fuel pump - ok good point its a mechanical one.

The ECU did have a very wet cloth sitting on the connections at the bottom, i'm guessing this wont help!

Will try a new live to the starter and see how I get on.

Got it going today, was just a bad connection on the switched live from the ignition. Actually ran very well once warm for a car that hadnt been started for 18months. I dont think the choke was working though as it was a struggle to keep alive for a bit, is it an electric choke on these? seemed to have a terminal connected to the carb?
