rear callipers
maybe a silly question but apart from solid or vented discs whats the difference between coworth 2wd and 4wd rear callipers can you use 2wd callipers on a vented disc cheers
The gap on 4x4 calipers are wider/bigger than on 2wd because the vented disc are a little bit wider than the solid ones. Therefore you can't use 2wd calipers on vented discs, but you can fit 4x4 calipers on a 2wd car since the bracket, bolt holes etc. are the same.

when you say carrier do you man the bracket that the calliper bolts to if so could i just get a set of brackets and use my existing callipers as they have recently been refurbed cheers
You can't use a 2wd caliper on a vented disc, as it will not be wide enough, even if the carrier is, vented disc need vented type calipers, as I said don't know the actual width of the caliper, but as said disc width is as above but doesn't help if you don't know what either one or both are width wise.
I am sure someone will measure one and post up.

it won't mate, not when you have to put pads in there as well
i've got a spare one at home somewhere i'll measure up to give you dimensions if they are needed
if you have a look at this picture youwill notice 2 arrows
the red one and the yellow one
these are for the normal 2wd cars (even though it's not a cossie you get the point)
the red arrow indicates the width of the carrier where the disc sits in and teh caliper bolts on to
this gap will be 12mm or so on the 2wd cars and 22mm or so on the 4wd cars
the yellow arrow indicates the width of the caliper and the total retracted piston width includes the thickness of the pads as well as the disc
on the 2wd cars this will be the thickness of the disc (10mm) plus the thickness of the pads (another 10mm each) so it will be approx 30mm give or take
if it were the 4wd variant this would be wider by another 10mm at least to account for the extra width of the disc
i hope this clears up any confusion left at the end of this matter
unless someone needs to see a 4wd caliper next to a 2wd caliper?
