Default I await my fate.......

... Will i get my Redundancy letter tomorrow???????

My work took the piss last month by laying people off, they said it was done fairly with things being taken into consideration. Ie time keeping, how long we have been their, what our quality of work is like, how many machines we can use etc etc. Me and another lad got layed off after working nights for a solid 18 months, between us we had 2 nights off sick. We made 1 off panels for people, made sure we always finished our work etc.

Guess who got layed off Been back their for a 3 day week and found out that 26 men said no to a 4 day week for everyone, compared to 23 who said yes.

Turns out they layed us off first cos we were on nights and earned more money , they then said the redundancies will be done fair this time

Anyone else in a similar situation???

All the best mate. My brother is in the same situation. Someone being layed off in work every other week. Luckily he is one of the best at his job, so he's been OK so far.

That is quiet naughty as it's unlawful to make redundancies based on the examples you mentioned, ie time keeping, etc. This should be addressed seperately through the correct performance management channels. They shouldn't be basing their decisions on such things.....

thats true but there is always a way round it.. ive just been made redundant by a large nationwide windscreen firm..out of 10 of us 7 had to go....we all reapplied and was given a score based on sort sorts of crap.. anyway, i have 10 year at the company with excellent attendance and a lad with 1 year experience gets the job! god knows who/how they came to that decision? hes a good lad so i dont feel as bad.

You must be applying for highly skilled jobs!!! I know round here there is often well over 100 applications for every low skilled/semi skilled job.

Yup same up here in north east, the company i work for has paid shit loads off lately, there was a canny few agency lads there, they went a while ago, then all the temps have gone/going in the next month now, probably almost half the workforce gone now to date, the permanent lads are starting to take their bit now. Sad Sad times.

Be careful what you wish for!

I finished a contract at Christmas and thought finding a new one would be a breeze so went off for a week in the sun and a relax into the new year.

Then couldn't get anything else, until, finally, I started a new job on Monday, which I'm really quite excited about, but the economy is a worry in any selling job, especially expensive fleet cars.

I got to find a job before i can be made redundant

Problem round here with high unemployment is that they can literally make any demands they want even for unskilled jobs and theres still people who can meet the qualification demand. I bet they could ask for a degree for a cleaners job and there is probably enough degree qualified people to apply for it
