Charity post time - raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital!
Right, here goes!
A week on Sunday, my missus Jo is running the New York Marathon. She’s doing it to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital, which as you will be well aware, is a very worthwhile charity.
The donation is going towards a new cardiac unit at the hospital, and having recently visited, trust me when I say that the hospital needs all the help it can get!
Ideally, we are trying to raise £2000, and we are already halfway there. As much as this is a begging post and a plea for cash, it is for charity, but I wouldn’t expect people to part with their hard-earned for someone they don’t even know…..so I’ve come up with an idea.
Since you don’t know Jo, but it’s such a worthwhile cause, all I’m asking from Passionford members, is to donate £1 each. If you chose to donate more, then please feel free, but all I need is a hundred members to donate £1 each, and we’ve made an amazing start. No-one will miss £1, even in this economic climate (!), and I’ll bet enough people can spare £1 from their PayPal account.
If you chose to donate, then the best way will be to send your £1 to my PayPal account, so I can amass the donation from PassionFord as a whole and then put it on to her “justgiving” page ( www.justgiving.com/jopagemarathon ) as a donation from my card from all of us as a group. To ensure complete transparency, I’ve given the mods my PayPal log in details so they can see everything is above board.
All I’m asking is for people to spare £1 – until you see it, you have no idea what a tangible difference the money makes to this hospital - saving lives, but also giving those less fortunate a better quality of life too.
I don’t normally do these kind of posts, but things I’ve seen and heard have made me seriously motivated to do what I can, even if it starts with supporting someone else, and tapping up any available resource!
If you want to donate, then can you send £1 to my PayPal which is n9thn@hotmail.com, and include the words GOSH in the title, so I can identify all payments.
Passionford as a community could really make a difference here, even if it just involves raising a few quid, so if you can spare one or two pounds, then please do so!
Thanks in advance.....

It was, but no-one reads the stickies, and I need maximum exposure before Friday!
So far, PAssionFord has donated £110, which quite frankly is amazing! Would love to get to £250 if possible..... just need as many people as possible to donate even the littlest amount!
Thanks to all who have donated so far - amazing response!

Well hopefully people will still keep donating.... only need a couple of quid per person and it'll make a massive difference.
Well happy with it so far - just need it to continue for a few more days!

Well she flew out yesterday to NYC, and PF has put together just over £200 so far, which is really very kind.
Up for any weekend donaters - last push before I add the donation.... so close to the amount we want to raise.....

Well good news!
Jo finished the marathon in a pretty good time of 4 hrs and 17 mins, beating her personal best by some 5 minutes. She also reckons she could have gone quicker, so will no doubt enter the London Marathon this coming year, even after promising that this would be the last one. Scary prospect is the thought of me being dragged along for 26 miles too!
Raised a very generous £225 from people on here, donating £5s and £10s and sometimes even more. Amazing result, stemming from me just begging to get some cash in for someone you don't even know, and only know by association.
Quite humbling really, and sometimes you forget how much of a community this place can be - something I've no doubt taken for granted or forgotten whilst off on one of my "richard is always right" rants. Doing little things like this for charity and seeing people come out in support, especially those who I've given loads of stick to over the years who could quite easily have not bothered, really makes you think how important a good community can be, even if it is based online.
Once again, thank you to all of you who donated - when I told Jo that a bunch of people from a car forum I use had cobbled together in excess of £200, she was overwhelmed to say the least! Truly fantastic response, all things considered, which has pushed us really close to the target we were aiming for.
Of course, we're still accepting donations in, so if you've only just read this post, feel free!
