I've got one. Fantastic on a B-Road. One of the very best FWD cars I've driven. Got far more urgent things to do car-wise at the moment, but would love to up the the power on it, and will do at some point. 160-180bhp NA with that chassis would be awesome.

Never really heard a bad thing about them, supposed to handle very well.
but so does a MX5 and MR2 if u get my drift
.
If ur not to worried what people will think then theres no reason not to buy one if thats what u want get it.

I ran one for 3 years as a company car and it was great fun to drive, handled really well and was good on fuel and if I could get rid of my company car I have now I'd have another as a daily driver. They aren't that quick in a straight line and the power is limited in 1st which is annoying but you used to be able to buy a chip to remove that limiter.
The only problem I found was that mine liked to be driven hard and I went through 3 clutches and 3 gearboxes in 70k miles
I used to rip the plate off of the clutch
other than that it took a lot of abuse

not long ago sold ours, you deffo need better brakes for them, and 4x4 cossie ones go on without too much bother
also had H&R coilovers on it, again made a good difference to the handling, not that it was bad as std, they just soooo badly need lowering!
also had a K&N filter and a full piper exhausts 4-2-1 manifold, sport cat and system on it. that made for a very revvy engine and added a fair bit of poke too.
dont know what the power limit in first is about? ours didnt seem to drop the power if launched in 1st? was a 98 r reg tho.
out of the cars ive got rid of so far, the puma is the one missed the most, was such a laugh and could be thrown about like a cheap hooker

Its deffo there in first....ours daily smoker is a R plate 1.7, and if you unplug the gearbox speed sensor you notice it straight away in first gear...revs so much harder unplugged.
Agree with every word Mike C said about them......if I had the time and spare cash i'd promote ours from daily driver to cheap stripped out track toy.
It's the car that I miss most too out of everything I've had.
I like your comments
, done a deal with a FRP for my cos and i wasn't too sure i was doing the right thing
but tbh i'm quite surprised what a good little car it is and not common like most other cars
good package as it comes only had a catless s/s added and is quick with brilliant brakes, defo recommended
(pay a bit more and get the FRP, there's some good priced ones about and they attract quite a bit of attention !.)
