Anyone got any tips on where to start my learning for Linux?

get yaself a cheap pc such as the asus eeepc and start learning with that.

google linux tutorials too

its actually quite easy if you have a methodical approach to things and can easily break down what a command means, then its just practice makes perfect!

i have decent pc that i bought for Ł100 so im gonna put it on there.

i have red hat 4???

linux / unix is paid well

its not somthing your going to learn over night, if ur literate with pcs already then this will help.

linux wise try something like ubuntu to get you started. this has both command line and graphical side (gui)

its free to download and is well supported! once your at a good level e.g being able to rebuild kernals and the like then go for somthing like slackware

i tried ubuntu on my laptop ... BIG FAIL LOL.

i'll have to download it again and try..

my mate suggested i start with RH4, but it seems im best not to?

Thanks mate, i really appreciate - im going to download ubuntu tonight again and then burn it to dvd and then get my pc built up and try and install it
