Martin my engine isnt going to be linered but is a stroker as we have agreed but what is the low down on liners, does it make the engine more reliable?? Or is what ive got more than enough and reliable for the bhp output?
Collins has always done the 2.3 conversions ,a company called Suhe in Germany did 2.5's on escort cosworths and they were tuved and a ford dealer too, heres a spec of a Suhe Turbo Technic escort cos

I would avoid the old 2.4 engines like the plague, as they use SHORTER rods than standard, so combined with a big stroker crank, the rod angle goes to rat shit and they get horribly vibrationary above 5500rpm (ideal for towing caravans though
).
The best stroker conversion is obviously one that uses a rod angle BETTER than standard (or no worse at the very least). The only way to do these with any big success is to use a taller block. You then have the best of both worlds - improved rod angle and larger capacity.
My own engine is a half way house, it has fractionally better rod angle than standard and with a bigger bore (93mm, which is the limit on a standard linered block IMO before wall thickness becomes an issue), and with a 82mm crank and custom rods (8mm longer than standard) and custom pistons (shorter compression height), it achieves 2225cc.

The only real issue I had was the first time we tried to use a 93mm bore on a standard unlinered (albeit early thick wall) block.
This was cured with liners.
We then had the exact same issue as Martin with a certain supplier's crank, where the nose fell off the crank
.
Since these issues have been resolved, the car has been bullet proof

I have done several strokers without liners but I don't go too big on the bore size. Yours will be fine.
Sorry to go back a bit, (i think someone else asked this question), but why dont these 2.3 and 2.4 strokers get used as much on cossies, when it seems they do the world of wonders for the evos boys
Is this down to money sides of things or is jus because there is no real need to go that extra capcity, and to just be done with a longer throw on the rods ??

1.8 is very good, whats your capacity, i guess you run a different bore size? (sorry i'm not really into the cosworth scene just comparing to other car's), how many RPM's are you doing?
I'm currently running 1.5 rod ratio on a honda, and revving to 7800 rpm's. (standard rod ratio, limiter is 7200 standard on this engine)
