Default 3 Door Temp Gauge

The temp gauge on my 3 door reaches just above the min line within the normal temp zone and then slowly falls just below it again, could this be a result of a faulty temp sender ???

Cheers

Almost certainly mate - changed mine and it jumped up to the middle again.Has it overheated? That can often kill the sender.

Have you checked your rs inbox mate?

Hi Andy,

No mate, it's never overheated..

It's recently had a new thermostat, water pump and fan switch fitted.

Will order a new sender unit tomorrow then.

Cheers

You can test the gauge by earthing it out with the temp sender wire where it will go to max, as you can see the temp go up then fall back the stat is ok, so most likely the sender, these were on normal sierra mk1's adjustable, on the actual gauge, had a sliding mechanism bit on the back of the gauge, never needed it myself, but if it comes to it, but I would also try a new sender first .

Hi Tabs,

Earthed the gauge out and it soared up into the red. Disconnected the bridging wire and it slowly fell back down again.

Faulty sender it is then (I hope) !!

Cheers

Im having a simular problem.
Currently running without a thermostat, and have been for two weeks, temp gauge always sits on the bottom of 'norm'. Fans still cut in and out fine.
Driving home last night, after 25miles of 30/40mph off boost, the gauge drops off the bottom for 2minutes, the rockets to the top in under 10seconds.

So i pull over, let the car cool, restart and its halfway on the gauge, make a bid for home and it drops off the bottom again, just as i pull onto my driveway, it shoots into the red.

The fans cut in and out fine still, but seem to make no difference to the gauge. Dodgy sensor? maybe?

If the fans are cutting in and dropping the temps, then yes a dicky sender, as not really a temp problem other than the guage reading, rewire your fans/fuel pump if not already done so.

Fans cut in and out when temp has dropped off the bottom, but not when the gauge shoots up into the red.
Ive never seen a gauge move so quick, even when ive run bangers with no water in them
Ah well, new sender just ordered.

Mine Did Exactly The Same Fitted A New Sensor Jobs A Good Un Runs Just Under The Middle And Sits There Come Rain Or Shine. When Mine Was Hot Nearly A Needles Width From The Red I Would Open The Bonnett And Didnt Seem Hot So I Changed It. Also I Found That Where The Wire Goes Onto The Sensor It Was Very Loose So I Dont Know If It Was Connecting All The Time Tighted This Up At The Same Time Dont Know If It Was A Coinceidence(speeling) Or Not. But All Good In The Hood Now.

Hope This Helps

Cheers

Ian

Just for reference when mine is on the top of the "O" it is at 93C, as this is when the fans are set to come on, till 90C when they go off which is at midway between "R" and "M".
