R888's for the road...

I fancy a set of R888's once my Asymmetrics are shot, how would people rate them for road use?
Not arsed about standing water, as long as I can do 55mph in the wet then its all good.
Just interested in wear, comfort, noise, performance, etc. Too bad I do 18k a year

i thought you had an ST220 road car?
theyre designed for track use. so unless youve got a track car or something that has so much power is struggles to be kept on the road i think you're wasting your money

Seeing as this country is rather wet - it's a bit of a silly choice for road use IMO. The gains you get in the dry will be well outweighed by the negatives in the wet/damp.

How about T1R's instead? Is the car to be used over winter? 888's must be stored above zero degress centigrade
Personally I wouldn't trust them in heavy rain

they are not designed to do what it is you intend to do.
luckily for you most major tyre manufacturers do make tyres that suit your requirements, so why not use them instead?
in toyo's case, the T1Rs ar a suitable tyre
If you want to get a set to increase your bragging rights, then go for it. If you want a set to improve your driving experience on the road then your cash would be better spent elsewhere.
I was expecting it though. I did about 80 road miles to scrub them in for trackdays. Then went back to normal quiet road tyres.
I was only mentioning it because if someone wants to run them on a fairly quiet daily driver (as i expect the St220 is) the road noise would soon outweigh and perceived improvements in grip and roadholding IMO.

I guess I will have to experience them on someone elses car before I splash out on them.
IIRC are there not warning stickers on them (when new obv) about not using them in very very cold conditions (ie below freezing)
Summat to do about being liable to cracking???
Not what id be wanting to drive to work on, on a frosty winters morning?

There was a very interesting tyre test some weeks ago by Autoexpress on 17" tyres.
My fave came top in standing water test, but the overall winner was a Pirelli, I was shocked, might be worth getting a back issue and having a read.

Some fair and informed comments on here. Some bollocks too of course.
I love my R888s and use them year round. Have been for a few years now.
Literally in anything other than floods, I really rate them over any other tyre I've owned or tried.
Depends what you're after, but for best performance, R888s are right up there IMHO. For me, that's ENTIRELY what owning a performance car is about. Crap tyres compromise everything you do with your car to make it go better!
Have seen about this cracking thing, but have NEVER seen it in 3 or 4 years of year round use, including snow and the car living inside in the winter frosts.
