innit?

yes mate, they are available via Mike Ranbird (R & B)

pound for pound, they will be alot better road quality with superb road handling characteristics compared to a set of Gaz/Avo coilovers.

Ahmed springs are very good, had these(borrowed) for a few weeks while avo coilovers were away for rebuild.
I would say it depends on what you want to do with the car, and suspension is a very personal thing, why not take your time and try to blag rides in cars with different set ups, would be my advice if you can.
Myself I found the ahmed very good but way too soft for me, had spax before as well as chassis dynamics(avo) std ride height and lowered on 3 door and cos std ride height chassis dynamics are excellent and I prefer these over ahmed.
My fave though is AVO, I like the ease of adjustability with coilovers(height wise) and avo seem my sort of damper.
I would seriously look at KONI adjustables with either ahmed or chassis dynamic springs for the road, just run koni on hardest setting, nice and comfy.

i'll be mainly using it for fast road use but next year i'd like to use it on the track.

i have avo coilovers on my mk2 golf gti and they're ok but obv an escos is a bit of a different animal and would prefer it a little more civilised not quite so jaw chattering lol

mike r - i'd prefer to lower it more than that i know the arguments against for suspension geometry and stress on the 4x4

any one in the bristol area with various set ups?? not drivin the car atm so aint popped upto the bristol rsoc meets

It will handle WORSE with the car lowered to that extent, it's got nothing to do with the geomtery (on the front), it is the roll centre, which is basically placed below ground level if you lower an Escort/Sapphire this much. If you want to go on track, then you're wasting your time lowering it by the extent you suggest "looks good".

Obviously the rear tyres will also wear at an excessive rate (due to the camber) and you will have huge problems with bump steer on the rear, along with reduced levels of grip (especially in the wet, as the rear tyres will be just running on the inner edges).

is there anyway to adjust the camber on the rear? sure you've go shims on your site? obv need adjustable track control arms on the front. got laser wheel alignment at work so i can set it all up on that after lowering it.

what if i put different wheels on will that affect the roll point of the car?

An adjustable beam.

The shims I do are for the toe only.

Different size wheels / tyres* (*which must have the same rolling radius) will affect the ride height, but then it depends on how much the car is lowered.

Look in the Escort section of this Forum, and you will see some pictures of cars fitted with Ahmed springs .

4t that might be the only way lol

if i went 225/35/18 there would be hardly any diffence in tyres diameter to 225/45/16 std wheels&tyres only 6mm or something like that

got a link to a car with ahmed springs? dont you do them in 2 different stiffnesses?

for the price of a good suspension setup is prob a grand, and then its doing it, for the bit extra you gain from using it on the road, its just not worth it. Can you really push one to its limits on standard springs legaly?

The standard stuff on the newest Escort is getting on for 12yrs old now, ok in some cases the car might not of done many miles but the setup was a compromise from the factory. If you start using the power you'll soon find the standard suspension lacking & thats before you get to the brakes. Just my opinon.

& you'll be looking at more than a grand for a good road setup, you can spend that on just the Adj rear beam (before fitting)
