Default good trackcar to match evo 4?

my brother did a compresion test on his astra last night and got 40% on no2 so rather than fix it he's throwing in the towel and thinking of an evo4.

now we like to keep it competitive but i aint paying 4k upwards for an evo, will an early wrx scoob be a good match up for it? is an ra that much better?

i think the astra i have is great but i only realy had it to keep us matched up for fun on track so i have no problem letting it go.

I'd say an RA would be better to dirve on track than an EVO 4. Gearing is nice, the handling is nice, the power is alright but would really need more boost and a better intercooler.

Cheap too, can be bought for 4k easy

IN that case get one direct from the importers! Can be bought for 2 grand or less from the auctions!! If you're only use it on track then you don't need to SVA it or any of that pish. Much cheapness!!

To be honest I never thought I would see the day you would be buying a scooby.

However it does make sence. You can pick up RA's relativley cheap. A couple of small mods & it'll be a crackin track car.

I think you'll get 1 pretty cheap!

John's brother paid 3k for his & it was in good nick.

The one thing I'll say is know when to stop!
I can just see it now, the nice reliable track car will turn into "I aint letting my wee brother beat me round the track"

"I'll just turn up the boost"

Hope you have money set aside for those chocolate subaru pistons!

What about a standard pulsar, with 1bar there quick too....
I know I had shit luck, but there are better cars out there than mine, and a few on the GTIROC have hardly no problems on track.

Theres one that floats about KH too, think its Euans friend.

i dont think i would go far for one due to the fact there are so many dogs about.

what are the main things to look out for on them?

there are k plate wrx's for Ł1700 upwards on pistonheads

Find a decent 95/96 WRX and add exhaust, panel filter and scoobyecu (peanuts on ebay now) and it'll give decent performance (around 280bhp)

There's still some nice ones about, lots of crap but the decent ones get dragged down pricewise too. You'd easily be able to get one for around Ł2k
