Saph rear strut brace - needed or not?
Do saphs benefit much from a rear brace? If so are the ones you can get from demon theives any good or does it need a more substantial welded in one to get any benefit?

Cheers. Is it worth fitting an off shelf one like this:

more important on the 3 door as the saph has a huge bit of metal under the parcel shelf doing this job
all you need to do is tie the strut tops to the sides ala escos front stru turrets if you want to keep the boot space or triangulate it to the fllor section where the tow bar bolt holes are located in the shell

Read it back to yourself and ask yourself if the bit of metal under the parcel shelf actually does anything to remotely stop shell flex....

it'll make it a lot stiffer than the 3 door which has a bit bit of air to help stop the shell flexing
and seeing as the strut tops will flex more if the shell flexes, the bit bit of metal stopping the shell from flexing in the saph will mean these will flex less as well

It doesn't need welding in, but defo benefits from being triangualted to the floor as well, much more so when coilovers are used.

does anyone sells these or do you have to make your own?
anybody any pictures of these?

I made me own, took a morning and about Ł15 worth of metal, very easy to do, you can actually feel the difference in hard cornering.
If I welded any of it in it would be the bottom part, the floor section, but the straight across bar bit is just compressive loads so not needed to be welded, so long as securely bolted.

the shelf sits on the metal bit of the shell thats welded 2 to the car
Mines not triangulated (sounds like good sense though) and I have a rear cage section. I found the bar easy to fit and keep tidy looking by carefully cutting some old spare plastic turret tops (covers).
at the front it stops the strut tops from flexing too much as you go round corners as it ties them together
on the rear the shell doens't flex as much in the saphs as you've got a lot more metal there to prevent the shell from flexing, as opposed to the 3 doors which have a big open space
the tops of the turrets can still flex though, but they won't do so as much as the fronts
