Default T04E - Gen?

Exactly what is a T04E? is it the same as an old T4, or is it some kind of hybrid? is it a specific turbo, or just a name to cover a huge variety of specs?

cheers

Just signifies compressor housing inlet and outlet sizes.

T04E just means it has a 3inch inlet, 2inch outlet.

T04B (2.75" in / 1.75" out)
T04E (3" in / 2" out)
T04S (4" in / 2.5" out)
T04H (4" in / 3" out)

anyone got any direct experience comparing these to newer Gt series turbos?

How do they spool by comparison?

Comparing that mate? Standard T series wheels to GT series? GT comp housings are of the same sorta dimensions as above.

Specced right from what I've seen/heard there isnt much in it with regard to wheels. Getting the right wheels and housings to suit the car makes the biggest difference, though that usually means testing.

Dont forget if its an aftermarket turbo, chances are the wheel isnt the same as what would normally be in that housing anyhow, either something newer, or aftermarket, or whatever.

GT turbos arnt the magic most people seem to think. Ive seen testing showing plenty of the alternatives of the same spec perform exactly as well, or better.

ALSO- what the fuck does "gen" mean?

gen = information, sorry, came from mig!

yeah, T series to GT series. i know plenty fo people who find the GT 30 and 35 turbos very responsive, but all you ever hear about the T4 is that its old and laggy and crap.

I think a lot of this is down to the engine it was attatched to in the bad old days tbh, AFAIK rapidcossie runs one with no issues for instance.

if youre not too busy, care to give me a brief intoduction to trends in wheel sizes etc? like what effects are achieved by increasing/deacreasing housing size...
