Why do you own an RS Turbo?
Ok, just been asking myself - why do I own an RS Turbo? It got me thinking, it would be kinda interesting to read why most of you guys own one.
For me it was an affordable car at a time of purchase which had great tuning potential. The RS scene has always been a good one to be a part of and I have fond memories of them when they were new.

wanted a quickish car when i was 20...bought s1 n crashed it after 2 weeks but loved every minute..so got a standard 1 next...not so much bothered about speed now, just love the look of them..stands me double what i paid for it cos it keeps breaking!! but still cant part with it after 7 year!
when i was 14 my dad had a series 2 which i now own, he wanted to keep it in the family, so we restored it, now i drive it with 200 brake on tap from stage 2 turbo and a mint mercury grey rs its worth the hassle,
when i was younger my neighbour had series 2 s all in different colours at different times i used to walk past and stare knowing i will one day own one as my dad could only afford a mk3 xr3 at the time that was still nice in the day a caspian blue one with 1600i front splitter

Wasn't going to buy an RS originally, wanted a Mk2 16v Golf. Mate said he had a mate who had a S1 for sale. I said that most were hanging (and this was in 1995) and I was assured the car was straight and solid. Had a look round, had a drive, noted what needed doing, had a think and said 'sold'.

Well when i bought my car i didnt realy know a great deal about the rst's. I was looking for a long term project that i could learn loads of stuff off as i went along. An rs seemed to be the logical way to go and iv never looked back from then on. Iv turned from liking them to an absulute loving them with a passion!
When you buy your first rs you probably dont know a great deal about them but i can garantee by the end of it you become a master mechanic or very poor person lol.

I always wanted one, and after going in my mates I HAD to have one, the looks of the car, the looks people give the car, the turbo pushing you back in the seat, for me the feel of a series 1 is way different to a series 2, I still like both cars but series 1's just do it for me

I drove a R5GTT, was my first turbo car! When I had the money, I snapped up the first car that come up for sale. Was quite lucky as it was a Grey S2, fair clean body, and completley standard.
The guy had it up for £1500, but I got it for £1000, as he was being deployed to Cyprus (in the forces) and needed it gone. Loved that car, and maybe one day I might have another, But it'll only be a Mercury Grey one! When I had it, I got knocking about with another guy called Nick, who also had a grey S2, who had mates who had a cossie and a FRST, So I soon become a lover of Ford RS's

my dad used to race a s1 in 95 toyo super road saloons championship, it went very well i was only about ten ,it had 240bhp at the wheels, even put cossy brakes on 5th injector leda coilovers ect, great days
ive got a s2 ish but in bonus shell, will own a s1 , 1 day
I just remember when I was still in school.
Next door had a radient red, mercury grey s2. They where both stunning owned by a old couple.
It was the vents that got to me.
As I grew up I finally got my s2 raidient red 90 spec. It wasnt as good as I thought it was going to be ended up selling as i kept putting too much money in the thing
I then decieded to get a series 1. They are just breath taking. Its just a completley different car, handles better feels better to drive.
But I think I want to get away from them now cant keep spending money on these cars as I have kids now
so my is up for sale. http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/579546.htm
Think its time to move on.

i love em because they are so easy to work on and return great performance for what you put in, if you are after a car you can work on easily and learn mechanics then this is the car for you. Also 99% of people who drive em (ie you lot) are a great crowd and always happy to help!!!
long live the RS

Not sure really. Dads always used to have fast fords when I was a kid. XR4x4, 2.8 Capri etc and my uncle had a White S2 before it was nicked, then he used the insurance to buy a Calibra Turbo.....which also got pinched.
So I guess it stems from there.
My first car was a Mercury grey XR2i which I bought off my brother and turned into a FRST rep and I've just stuck with Fords.
Brother went jap and bought an STI and I stuck with Fords and Bought a S2.
That and I actually quite like spending my bank holidays/weekends/days off searching for where that oil leak stain on the drive my parents moan about is coming from and wondering if it will go bang everytime I put my foot to the floor
But I love it when I bump into mates from school who take the piss because I own a 20year old Ford shortly before Embaresing them at the lights.

my best mates dad had to a black one and then a mercury grey one (series 2), we were no older than 10 and i remember everytime it was time to go out in we'd be running around shouting "its time to go in the race car!!!" ever since then i wanted one. the first time i drove mine was epic, couldn't believe i actually now owned a car id wanted for years. and when it goes bang its easy to fix, if i can't do it then i know plenty of people that will help me.

I dont know how to answer this, ive had all types of cars my last car was a skyline i sold my series 2 to buy it and i have now sold my skyline and have a merc clk as a "work car" i sold my rst to a mate. A couple of days ago i helped him bring it back to his house from hes girlfriends and i could have drove his 300bhp 200sx or my old 200bhp rst i didnt even think about driving the 200sx i jumped in the rst and was smiling all the way to his house i want to buy it back, so i dont know why rst i just think they are one of the best affordable cars that you can get good power out of for real world money i think they look great and drive good for a 20year old car and above all the have character which most other cars dont have especialty new cars.
But hey thats just my opinion

I originally wanted a sierra cosworth but thought that I would look lost in one, so when my S2 was offered to me by a friend who didn’t really want to sell it, I thought it would suit me more and I would give it a good home.
I’m glad that I ended up with the RS Turbo, rather than the cosworth, as I’ve been really impressed with the developments with them in the last few years – the results of the Performance ford daddy thrashes and the times run at Central day regional days etc have been admirable

because i used to own a 4X4 cosworth then moved and it wouldnt fit in my garage, so sold it, my mate spent a lot of money building a Rs turbo with cosy management etc owes about 14K but i bought it for alot less and it will fit in the garage, just a way of getting back into RS's but i beleive a escort cosworth will fit in my garage so when estate agents etc get there finger out i will be looking for one was hoping to buy L9 COS but as i say trying to sell a flat at the moment but may now rent it out as only bought it as an investment anyway.
now theres a bit of a life story,

my dad always had faster fords, had a xr4i, 2dr cossie, and then a xr3i when insurance went mad in the nineties
I always loved his mk4 xr3i and remember it a bit more clearly- always wanted one then i realised they weren't all that and the rst was the one to set your pants on fire
loved/hated it ever since and it ain't going nowhere
not many 20/25 year old fwd cars that can still be so much fun and cut the mustard with a modern hot hatch

I wanted an RS Turbo 15 years ago when my brother in law took me out in his S2,I couldnt find a good one for the money i had but fell upon a good Fiesta RS Turbo so had that then a couple of years later that was sold on to make way for a Saph Cosworth.
The Cossie was nothing but trouble so i got a part chop on it that couldnt be turned down with a mint S1 and over 10yrs later i still own it.
Its currently just sat in the garage gathering dust as i have lost interest in it but dont want to sell it!
Its not the first time i've done this but guaranteed everytime i drive it again i remember why i won it still.

because my uncle owned mine 4 13 years when it came up 4 sale i sold my mk2 xr2 and snapped it up i have now owned it 3 years and will prob never sell as it holds lots of memories. when i was a kid going to brands hatch was always a buzz i used to love it when he would lever it away from the tolls at dartford!!!!!
I always loved Escorts, started off with a mk4 1.3 Eclipse, then a mk5 1.4lx, then a brief stint in a corsa quickly followed by and RS2000 16v, which was sold in favour for the S2 I own today. I think that everything that makes the RST stand out from other Escorts is why I love them, the recaro interior, the bonnet vents, body kit, the sound and the way they drive. I've never driven anything that goes quite like my S2, the way the power's delivered is awsome!
I dont think I'll ever sell or break my S2, anything that goes wrong is so easy to fix!

I've always loved them from when I was young and it dawned on me one day that I could buy one. It was a nightmare but I didnt have the best advice. One day driving about I saw this gorgeous red one sitting outside a cinema one day and i thought wow
Years after that I ended up being friends after meeting through work and I hassled him for ages to sell to me and eventually he caved in. I love it its given me so many memories. Met some pretty sound charaters too through the WOS RSOC etc
It doesnt feel like any other car I'll regret the day I sell it and I'll prob get another afterwards lol

i really dont know why i bought my one... my old man always had cossies as i was growin up and i got his cossie from him when he bought a new car... cossie was off road for couple months so randomly bought an rs as well lol... as much as i love the rs when its runnin, i would never buy one again
I have been brought up with RS's all my life, my dad used to show his mk2 rs 2000 for years, then he moved on to a 4x4 saff cossie, then as soon as I could afford it I bought my s2 and love it, the noise, looks, performance, easy to work on etc........always bloody working on it tho!
