OK guys, I have been offered a second chance offer on this, going to look at it tommorow. Is there anything that immediatly jumps out and says "Nail, don't buy me" ? The milage is high, but seems to have been looked after. The only thing that worries me is a) It seems too cheap with all the extras, and b) might just be me/the pics, but is it on slick tyres in some of the pics?

Seems nice to me. Check the service history with a fine tooth comb though. Makes all the difference with these bikes.
Id be more interested as to why you got a second chance offer though. His mate bidding it up? id go and view it and hit him hard in the balls with a 'sensible' offer.

not cheap at Ł3500 with that milage, check for chain wear on underneath of swingarm,so often overlooked on these,a lose chain eats the swongarm to dangerous levels and is never noticed, check cush drive bushes as with high milage these pull out and wear the eccentric hub adjuster away, very costly,if its been used hard with slicks check the rear wheel holes on the mounting pegs are not elongated, rairing damage?
check radiator is straight and the oil cooler is not wrecked especially at that milage, they usually are.plus the usual bits and bobs, belts and heads last serviced,

As said service history will be important at that mileage but from my experience with Ducati's (916's and 996's) the bodywork tends to suffer and at that mileage I'd expect it to be cracked in certain places....very common on these bikes due to the brittle plastics used and the vibrations of the engine.
Full system opposed to just endcans makes a big difference!
If you think it might have been tracked check for lockwire on things like sumpplug, brakecalipers, see if there's a catchtank for fluids, lower chainguard etc.
Check for condition of the bike underneath the bodywork, a lot of bikes are raced on pattern bodywork and when it's time to sell they put the originals back on.

Mate, having owned a few of these, do not be put off by the miles. IMHO dukes like to be ridden, not just admired. Like most folks have said, check the paperwork (twice). I actually think its about the right money, it does come with some costly bits, mainly the monoposto. Just bear in mind it is 'only' the BP version, so a bit down on power. Also, does he have the original bits? ie wheels, pipes etc?
I looked at this one on ebay for myself and was very tempted then, only reason I did not go ahead was because it is an early gold frame (and I really wanted an S
)
Where is at fella?

Deal done , subject to an independant inspection
.... Only thing wrong with it really is a cracked n/s headlight. There are a few tiny marks here and there but nothing major at all, and it sounds the bollocks
... Rear wheel/ hub etc has been looked after, so no long holes, and had a belts and oil service just over 800 miles ago. Guy is totally upfront and has given me all the details of previous owners and the details of where it's been serviced etc. Picking it up on Saturday,my birthday
if all turns up trumps on the inspection.
Mrs is NOT happy at all,

but you gotta do it while you are young
. not bad for a first bike I will probably be riding like a right sissy for the first few months
.
Can anyone suggest a good inspection company that can travel?

Did you ride the bike? After riding a 916 a few years ago I can't imagine having one as a first bike would be a great experience, not the easiest bike to ride slowly and hone your skills on IMO. But enjoy it.
make sure it hasnt got charging problems ducati's EAT reg rectifyers, lovely bikes though when there right.
can imagine a headlight being very costly too mate, sure i can remember them being stupidly expensive

... The way I see it, it's pointless buying somthing you don't want, and all I have ever wanted is a duke 916/996/998, or a GSX-R as a second choice. Just have to take it easy, and intend to do a good few riding courses etc. Thread
