Default S1 Advice

Hi all,

Couple of questions for you very helpful people!

Am in the process of installing a new engine in my S1. Have got hold of a rebuilt 90-spec motor. The problem I have is it came without the turbo and ECU.

Have now purchased a turbo but still have a couple issues with the ECU.

1) Will the ECU of the S1 engine run on it. I have heard stories about knock sensors being needed?

2) The black fuel ECU that was on the engine before had been "modifed" to help fueling under load. Is this an essential mod or a waste of time?

Thanks for your help

1) The S1 didn't come with a knock sensor. I've used an S1 ECU in an S2 with knock sensor and it worked fine. Obviously the old ECU won't be able to read the knock sensor but from what I've heard they're quite unreliable anyways so no real loss there.

2) Do you have any more specific information about what has been done to the fueling ECU? Usually it's only the ignition ECU that gets chipped, fuel is then adjusted on the electro-magnetic pressure actuator of the metering unit.

The only mod on the fueling ECU I know of, is bridging two certain pins in order to remove the rev limit.

Well thats good to know about the ECU! Thanks!

With regards to fuel ECU, Im unsure of the mod that was made to it. In its previous instance in another car, the engine was pushing 240ish bhp.
I asked the question, how that was possible without 5th injector / different management. Apaarently when the previous chip was sent to Ahmed Bayjoo he also did "something" with the fuel ecu.
The metering unit has also been modified to increase fueling, again unsure on specifics.

Altho reading on this forum about fueling from an MFI it seems that the metering units can be so different that one may give up fueling at 200bhp others may go to 250.

Well it's more about in what nick they are. In good condition they should all be able to flow the same.
