Default New to board 76 Capri II turbo

Hello all. I thought I'd introduce myself.

I am the proud owner of a (2 actually same color/engine but bone stock) 1976 Capri II 2.3L 4 cylinder turbo.

The car started life as a bone stock 2.3L 4 speed car. In the USA the Capri II got either a 2.8L V6 or an 88HP all iron (head and block) 2.3L 4 cyl. Similar to the 2.0 Pinto (OHC), but shares no parts...totally different engine.

The car's current specs are:

Car

-1" lower 40% stiffer springs and rear leafs
-Koni Yellows
-26MM front sway bar
-Poly bushes
-Power steering
-2.8i V6 spec brakes (front and rear) with EBC greenstuff pads in front
-Braided brake hoses

Drivetrain

1988 EFI turbo 2.3L engine

-Aluminum big valve head (1.59 intake, 1.89 exhaust)
-.520 lift Stage II turbo cam
-Ported Intake
-adjustable cam sprocket
-Stainless exhaust header
-Spearco intercooler
-2.5" mandrel bent exhaust
-Large V8 Aluminum (Griffin) radiator
-T3/T4 Hybrid .50 trim
-Tial 35mm wastegate
-65LB injectors
-Holley Commander 950 programmable EFI
-1988 borg warner T5 turbo transmission
-stock Capri axle (no LSD!!!)

She basically still looks like this. Those are 15" Enkei rims with 225/50/ 15s
which rub only when going backwards and turning for some reason.

Tuned VERY poorly the car layed down 258HP 291TQ at the wheels at 18PSI.

Engine not quite done from the latest bout of mods

Nice car, interesting the different engines fitted to cars for different markets, I assume this 2.3 engine was first fitted in the PINTO car ?

The 2.3L was originally designed as an engine in tractors! I actually think that the 2.3L was introduced in the Capri II, Mustang II and Pinto all at the same time. Although the Pinto and Mustang II may have had a 2.3L in 74. The Capri didn't get a 2.3L until the 75 1/2 model year.

Nice car. I'd like to keep original but those bumpers would drive me wild! I'd have to put European versions on.

Basically yes it's the XR engine. However, the donor car was not an XR. It was an 88 Ford Thunderbird. That engine was rated at 20 HP over the XR, but it's still a Lima engine.

These engine are extremely stout. I was very poorly tuned when I last dynoed it and left ALOT on the table. Once it's running again I expect at least 300-325 at the wheels before I even tune it properly.

The US spec bumpers are a bit ugly, but they have grown on me over the years. The car does have few euro bits. MkIII headlights and light surrounds as well as MKIII taillights.

Oh, btw that's the original paint. The car has never been resprayed.

I always hate to guesstimate. As far as I'm concerned it's a 258HP atw car, but I guy I know with exactly the same parts made 427HP atw at 25psi boost. So my 300-325 guesstimate should be close to reality after working out some bugs....

It's a shame these engines weigh as much as they do. The Cossie lump has alot better power to weight ratio. They are hens teeth in the USA.
