As above really, just curious. I know you'll never know an exact time unless he goes there. Roughly, what do people think? Also, how about the Reyland Cosworths?

Interesting question, and it depends on who is driving it of course more than anything else.

But I bet a good driver would be about 7:30 BTG

Someone did explain to me what Bridge To Gantry was whilst I was there, however I have forgotten. Is it the end of the straight to the begining? Starting as you go under the bridge?

Yes its from the bridge at the end of the pit straight to the gantry at the start of it. (so not quite a full lap, im sure MikeR will be able to give a fairly good ballpark of how much difference that makes, but IIRC its about 15 seconds)

I'd agree with chip there, its got to be around those times, Mike "could" get in the 7's in is car IF he chose to run it at full power, well actually it would probably manage it without being maxed out but you would need a clean lap.

There is a huge power and weight advantage with Andys car though, I'd imagine it would be VERY lively around the ring, you don't want anything too harsh for the ring and I think thats why Mike's car takes to it so well.

If he's going and wants a passenger I'm WELL up for it, I'll just check my life insurance policy first

chase him with 'that' bottle benni, I bet he'd do it in about 3.5 seconds

As Chip says, its all down to the skill of the driver really.

JohhnyBravo, assuming they value your life the same way I do, can I be the beneficiary of your will, as the money will go towards a ring ticket for a lap for myself.

i'm pretty sure both reyland cars would be quite easily capable of sub 8 BTGs with proper drivers infact i recon if we buy porkie and Xbox then stick mike R in the passenger seat with him he'd bash out a mid 8 straight off.

being pedantic, but it's not the pit straight, although of course you do enter/exit there on tourist days. when it's in use as a racetrack, nowadays the pits straight is the one on the GP circuit that gets linked, but when it was just the nordschleife, the pits and the start/finish are at the top of the hill where you have the 90 degree right hander (that gets blocked off when linking up with the GP circuit).

if you don't know where i mean, watch the beginning of this vid. it freaked us out one time we were there and the layout had changed

With a professional driver (as in a 7000lap plus veteran), with suitable gearing and depending how soft Andy's suspension could go down to, then I would suspect it should be capable of 7.20 or under for a FULL lap. It has a better power to weight than the Edo Porsche that has done a 7.13.....

If a std GT2 can do it in 7:32ish, you'd have to think a smidge faster for sure

I would also like to say that you could not pay me to go in the car with Andy driving until he had survived 50 laps .

I agree with mike : 7:30 btg is not that fast really. A standard CSL can beat that with a proper driver. They managed 7:45ish full lap which equates to 7:20 ish BTG. 360 bhp on cup tyres....

I think andy's car on slicks and softer suspension would do an amazing lap.

Cheers

You went in a road car with road car suspension. Race car suspension is not designed to have the same kind of bump absorbtion, so is not suited to the bumps and compressions of the Nordschleife.

The first time the Loaded CSL went to the Ring, they had to abort their attempt of a fast lap, as the suspension was just too stiff and the TOURING CAR DRIVER feared for his life .

When my M3 was on the ramps at ring racing they didnt think that my shocks had enough travel either and that is on a lightly modified road setup.

I've seen lots of videos where people seem to be doing a great lap and then it's like god himself has pushed the car off the track. It's like one minute there doing so good and the next it's as if they have hit diesel.

I can understand people having accidents but I just seem to watch a lot of freak accidents. It's looking really good and really smooth and safe and then there off.

So when I went I was expecting it to be like the M6 but it was far from it.

Can I ask what is your fastest lap in the escort? Benni.

I was thinking the likes of Mike, would do a 7:30 BTG, not a pro driver, im sure they could do far quicker.

Lets all hope that one day AG takes it there and we can find out

So far just needs to be road legal if its a UK car as far as im aware, I know lots of people who have been around with non-tuv approved UK cars.

Andrew, don't think it would be a good idea you doing the ring in your focus tbh - everyone knows the talent you have for driving etc but you have a "remove brain from skull" attitude with a "no fear" driving and the ring deserves a lot more respect than that. Like what Mike says, have at least 50+ laps before trying any timed laps. (If you ever go like, LOL)

Enjoy yourself at Gatebil and be careful fella.

Hmm - if you know how to drive your car (which Andy clearly does) he will have no issues lapping the nurburgring at good pace. The final few % will be the challenge.

The chap who asked about Mike's fastest lap - 8:06 iirc was what I timed it at. 8 seconds faster than I have managed yet!

It was an awesome lap and the best way to end the trip

So without traffic holding Mike up he could be into the 7's?

Benni on the particular lap we were on, we really didn't suffer any traffic that i recall, it was the total end of the long weekend and the track was perfect and Mike was driving very well. If we lost any time to traffic it was a very small amount. I kinda recall Mike saying we lost time on the uphill section but I just can't remember it. I think we only passed a handful of cars the whole lap and considering our pace, that was a real sign of how quiet it was.

I am pretty sure that it would be possible for Mike and his car on both of their best days to drop into the 7's. I believe that the bhp we had at the time was not the amount that Mike has subsequently seen out of the car.

To keep it in context, I am hoping to get into the 7's next time I am there too. I just need to find 14 seconds and moving from totally standard road tyres to something more track orientated like cups etc and perhaps running 1 person instead of a passenger, I expect that will take care of it.

So a reasonable basicly modded M3 should be able to get into the 7's with me at the wheel. So its not exactly an impossibility.

Cheers

7 minutes must be amazing. I think my friend went round it in 10 minutes but it was more of a leasurely drive as he hasn't that much experience of the ring in his ST220.

It must be frustrating if you think you are on for a 7 minute lap and get stuck in traffic. Either way, both yours and Mikes times are impressive. I know he has driven yours there, have you driven his?

10 minutes is a piece of piss in a half decent car, I did 10:16 in a car id never driven before having never even seen a full video of the circuit etc before we went and having never had a passenger ride round it, and that was despite pulling over loads of time to slow to let people past who knew were they were going.

Anyone who isnt under 10 mins in anything half decent isnt trying IMHO wether they know the track or not.

under 8 though, thats properly pedalling and in something very sorted, I cant see me ever doing that personally

I am talking from the moment we leave to the moment we came in. And like I said, we was taking it very easy.

You could get into the 10s, as in under 11 minutes, with a pinto engine in it, without ANY doubt.

Jim did a very low 11 in his M3 without going more than 10% throttle anywhere, we literally never used more than 100bhp, he got 28mpg round the lap, we were just making sure he got the line right and seeing how economical it could be, lol
