Are there fake alpine products available on the market? The reason is ask is I am thinking of treating myself to a new head unit for my focus, and was thinking of one of the DVD motorised touch screen jobs but figured I wouldn’t really need the screen etc so may just go for a top-end alpine.

Had a brief look on eBay and noticed they can be got far cheaper (£80+) from sellers that ship from china and the USA. Are these fake products, like the fake Nikes etc, or are they just seconds etc.

I’d normally go to an internet store, or a local car hifi place that does the best deal, but at these prices it’s got me considering it. What are the pitfalls, can I get stung for import tax etc, and will it break after 5 mins

The radio frequencies will not cover the UK range. You might get hit with tax by customs. Some units may well be seconds or refurbed and will not be covered by the UK warranty.

 

will buy from a UK supplier then i think...sounds like it may be more hassle than is neccesary

 

car audio security are a pretty reputable supplier. Have a wide range of alpines too.
