yeh even though technology advanced wise its 10 times better and refined than a cossie. i bet in 15-16 years time they will just be another old car.

RS badge yes, as far as marketing and sales figures go.

but if u ask me the RS ethos died when the last escort cos rolled out the factory.

then the Saintary Towel badge did nothing for them, so theyve gone back to RS, but its just not the same.

I watched the video for it posted earlier today and I feel that the guy talking about it whoever it was, I just didn't get a confident vibe off him that it was a PROPER RS. Sounded as if he was struggling to convince the public and himself that it was a pukka RS and not a revised ST.

When I saw the pics of it, I thought that's stunning. After I've heard him go on about it, I'm left disheartened. He didn't sell it to me as an RS. He sold it to me as a better ST.

why cant they do like they used to use the rallying as a base & then make a road car
how many years has the focus been rallying with 4x4 ????
the only focus's that are 4x4 on the road are not built by ford & its there loss

o ye its just a ST with a few bits changed

Because the point of cars like that is to have the tech/foundation of the rally/race car for the road. That's what Cosworths were and what impreza's/evo's ARE.

If it was 4wd or even rwd I'd deffo consider getting one but fwd is total

love the green colour too

there will never be a car like the escort or sierra cosworth built by ford ever again
because accountants run the companies ,the greenies or goonies as we call them will say it`s killing the daisies . but what they will do is give u a expensive fwd
car that is reasionable on track but not blistering like the days of old .

i dont think weight is the issue either , with modern tec that should not be a problem

HI guy's

My answers for all the negative feedback on the RS being FWD...

I don't know what it is about the power delivery of the 5 pot engine, it some how spreads all the power throughout the entire rev band, the feeling of the torque just puts a huge smile on your face. It differs from the four pot engine in such a way that 300bhp is well within it's handling capabilities, the chassis gives you so much grip its almost unreal, mid corner lift off See's you get a well controllable dose of over-steer which again adds to the already positive feeling you have for the car.

Stop!!! and think for second, because I have just described an ST and not the RS we are about to get early next year...Bottom line, if the ST drives and performs as described above (someone who owns an ST should back me on this) then we are in for one hell of a surprise on what the RS is going to produce.

Raining or not, you are going to have a difficult time trying to stay with a modern FWD car in a 10-20 year old 4WD...you will need a monsoon with 300 MPH gusts in order to have an equal chance of beating the "new RS" in a 4WD car.

FRS which is 5 years old was aweful in the wet have you been in an evo in the wet does about 80% of what it can do in the dry where as a focus does about 10% lol

If it was 4WD then they could've done some even more monstrous versions with alot more power like mitsi do. Imagina a 360bhp 4wd foci that would be mental but they can't/won't cos as said company has been taken over by the accountants who don't care what the car is as long as it makes lots of money. I'm not saying its gonna be a pants car it just could be alot better!!!

Surely that's the point of a company?

Seems that waaaaaaay too many people are slating the car before it's even turned a wheel.

But that's because it's both big and clever to slag something off without actually having any experience of it whatsoever.

i think it looks pretty damn impressive, and fook all ya'll that complained that its not 4wd, since when did that matter so much?

i imagine a new 2009 focus RS will outhandle an 1992 escort cossie with both as standard.

it is a cost saving excercise of course, and if the laws state they dont have to homologate for rallying any more, why should they bother

(proud FWD Focus RS owner )

I laugh at all the moaning on here about this car that nobody has driven yet, as its painfully obvious that many on here would not buy the Focus RS no matter what spec it was. If you tool around in a ropey old Ł3,000 sapph cossie or the like then most will not be able to shell out Ł25000 for a new car regardless of spec or make. Mainly because they would be driving an evo or similar already.

This car will probably be good but at Ł25,000 it is to much as that is evo 10 money, FWD should be sub Ł20,000 in my opinion.

Thinking of it from a different perspective though, out of all the hot hatches available, what would you have in 2009 if it wasn't the RS?

Only thing I've grown to like really is the Megane R26 cos you don't see them anywhere and looks a bit different lol.

I'm trying not to fool myself into thinking the RS is going to sit way above anything else but, my feelings are after driving a 300bhp ST with no suspention or brake upgrades is that the RS will be very special.
I would love to own a 4WD monster that can power oversteer out of tight corners, I beleive to have this kind of power coupled with 4WD requires silly service intervals (that cost a small fortune) and a fuel consumption of approx 8 mpg. (out of my reach for costs unfortunatly) A car that cost half the price to run and service, and will (in a real world) give a 4WD a BL(,)(,)DY good going for its money 'on a dry day' is tops in my book.

I will admit though that I have been looking at the Evo X (300 bhp) and dreaming about the what if's.
