Gearbox, gearbox-mount, rearaxle(if you have big power), Don't know if you'll need to change the oilpan, most likely not

gearbox and mount
rear prop
change the sump on the engine and ditch the front prop, front diff, front driveshafts
leave the hubs alone and job jobbed

I am doing this (2wd esocs track car project) & I was told when doing this that to do the job properly you really need a 2wd front end as the converted 4x4 front end is not ideally set up for 2wd. So I got 2wd stuf front and back.

It's kind of irrelevant to me now as i've gone for compression struts and adj tcas up front, so could have used either.

But it would be easier to just buy a 2wd saph as they are genrally a bit cheaper than 4x4s...

Dont bother mate, a friend of mine done it & it would of been alot cheaper & easier to get a 2wd car.
You must use 2wd rack & hubs etc aswell if not it will handle & drive like a sack of shit!!!

the 4wd set up is that way because the front wheels are "driven"

if you remove the "drive" the suspension and steering no longer need to control the extra bits, plus when youput your foot down the front won't try and straighten up soyou would be forever correcting the steering

totaly different from blowing the transfer box and not having any drive getting to the front wheels as the transfer box does this to match the rotation of the front and rear props only

Will you were one of the people who mentioned it to me that they don't handle very well converted from 4x4 by just removing the diff etc..

I don't profess to be right, I heard it casuses bump steer and kind of what dojj says above about the steering not acting like a proper 2wd setup....As I had a choice I chose the proper 2wd kit for my 2wd conversion.

Cheers
Dan

To be honest Dan, I havn't really driven it much since the conversion, but it does handle a bit funny. I put it down to being too low and being on 18's, and needing a good track and geometry check. Just feels slow to turn in, but I can't see what other problems it would cause?

What parts have you used to convert it?

Left the 4x4 stub shafts in to hold the front hubs in, T5+ prop and 2wd starter. 4x4 sump modified to clear starter. special gearbox mount. All front x-member, rack, hubs tca's etc are std 4x4 stuff.

Front shafts, front prop and front diff removed. Still got the 4x4 rear beam in which I intend to swap to 2wd soon.

As I said mate, few loose ends to be tied up like the gearbox gaitor, speedo cable etc,and it is a T4 car on 850cc's, so it is fucking fast anyway so is quite hard to judge against a "normal" saff, i think it is a combination of needing a good handling set up, tyre pressures doing and maybe having never driven a saff on 18's before, might stick it on 17's and see what its like. It is stuck in the garage at the moment due to financial and time contraints
