AVG was supposed to stop updating 31st May, which then became 25th June. Everytime mine updated I got a message from AVG telling me to upgrade as "AVG Free will stop updating from the 25th June"

Funny, it updated fine this morning....

 

Yep mine is still going strong

 

Just update to AVG 8.0. It's still free. I've been up and running on this for a couple of weeks now.

Just make sure you don't add the shitty toolbar thing that it tries to force you to have (like most program downloads do these days).

 

I don't like the newer version. It's more intrusive, consumes more system memory/resources and takes up a larger footprint. the older 7.x.x version I have is "quieter" and and has a smaller footprint - hence why I haven't upgraded it.....

 

i've tried to upgrade to version 8.0 and it says i've got to pay for it

so i'm staying with version 7. something

 

Read it ALL!! It does look like there is no option but to pay for it, but there is a link that takes you to the free download.....

 

i've never found the link that says "this bit is free" but judging by what others have said, i'm already struggling with one machine to keep it scanning while doing anything else so i'm happy keeping it scanning as it is in the middle of the night
