Default Fooking AVG!

Popped home to my mums lastnight on way home as my sister reported to me that the internet had stopped working.

Gave it a look and found someone had disabled the network connection

So thats that sorted...

Made sure it was all working and noticed that AVG was out of date (probably cos it couldn't auto update) so I told it to update. It said no LOL. Told me it couldn't find the required path. Last time it did that I had to uninstall and reinstall AVG, which I did. All worked fine, downloaded it's update after the fresh reinstall and all was good.

Then I messed around with another couple bits, and managed to delete a couple settings (long story, not gonna bother going into) but the easiest way around that was a simple system restore, which I did.

Cool, everything back up and running, but of course, AVG wasn't having any of it, saying an invalid license was being used (the previous days install would have had a different lisence to the new install I put in that night) No bother I thought, just uninstall and reinstall it again....

But could I get it to reinstall? Could I fuck!!!! I refused every single time stating 1 error occured : insufficient system resorces to carry out task (error 1450) kept coming up, no matter what I did!

Gave up in the end as my ten min drop by had turned into an hour and it was 1am by that time!

So I need to go back at some point to get it working again, but I'm fresh out of idea's!!!!

Help me LOL.....

Simple, boot into safe mode and uninstall avg, then download a new copy from free.grisoft.com and install it

I hate it when a 5 min job turns into an hour

Try it in safe mode

Also, delete all program file entries in c:\ program files

Did that, but it won't allow you to install in Safe Mode! Says operation cannot complete in Safe Mode

Anyway, looked about on Google for help and found some stuff on AVG's free help forum. Which is all well and good, but in order to post you need to register. And you can't register without installing AVG Free and using the "forum register" link in it! Nice one! I need help installing, but can't ask cos I haven't installed the fooking software that I am having trouble installing that I need to ask about! Stupendous piece of idiocy there!

Anyway, one thing I read was from a person with identical problems - he said he changed the default name of the folder AVG creates during the install process. He said it then worked no probs...

So I did the same thing and lo and behold, completely sorted! Installed fine, updated and ran a scan!

How odd tho!

It was already uninstalled - no mention of it in Add/Remove Programmes and no listing in the programmes menu to use an "uninstall" programme....

Oh well, seems to be sorted now - just hope I don't have to do it again!
