tv network NBC are going to be making there own version of topgear.

what you guys think of this? the yanks stealing yet another one of our should be national treasures and claiming it their own?

i know clarkson packed in doing topgear for the yanks because he couldnt say what he wanted to about the cars due to sponsors getting their knickers in a twist, so i'm sure hes not happy about the bbc selling off the topgear name.

opinions?

why can't they just air the uk version?

considering the show is bought and paid for by the british public and has been on tv for over 30 years i think it qualifies as a natiuonal treasure
just seems like an insult that you yanks feel you can do better.

Far from being STOLEN , the U.S will have paid the Beeb good money for the rights to use the format, as all countries do when using an existing program format.

The U.K version will have failed to the mass U.S audience due to difficulty in understanding the presenters accents, the U.K dry humour and the programme content being mostly European based.
The U.S version will be more appropriate to a U.S audience.

I'm a Mustang owner but would have no interest in a U.S presented programme reviewing U.S cars.
Building or modifying U.S cars as A-Hotrod etc yes.

The U.S have been buying programmes from the U.K for decades, as we have also been buying theirs.

They will TOTALLY fail to get the humour of it, which IMHO is what makes topgear so good.

I can see why they want their own version though, ours doesnt cover many of the cars sold in their country so is of little interest I should think.

 

The cars UK Top Gear reviews are going to be, on average, how applicable to the American market?

Does it really matter? Mins i always found it funny when i was staying over Fastmauls that TOP Gear did have kinda of a US sideline and Jermery was saying how much cars would cost in Dollars etc. lol

Makes me laugh that people get so het up about it, yet don't seem ot have a problem with the fact we show a shitload of American movies and sitcoms etc... Fuck me, the most popular programme in the country for the longest time was Neighbours - an Australian soap!

More to the point, who gives a fuck! The Yanks are gonna get their own version of TopGear - whoop-d-do! Who gives a toss
