Default Bonnet Underlay - Yes or No

I've heard a few stories and opinions about underlay catching fire if its on or bonnet paint going crazy paving style if its left off... but what do the majority of people on here think/do?

My last Saff didn't have it and it was absolutely fine for over 2 years... I prefer the look of it without but i've got a very good condition underlay that needs moving out of the spare room one way or another!!!

I did hear from someone on here about driving past a fire and a ember went throught he vent/grille area and set light to the underlay.
The heat is not going to affect the paint if done properly, without an underlay.

I've not gone any - it's as Uncle Henry intended for my 2wd Saff

AND, the bonnet used to be red - not blistered or cracked underneath at all.

I've been tempted to take mine off but I'm worried about the heat. What boost are you guys without running? My t34 peaks at 32 psi and it does get VERY hot under there...

I though 2wds had the underlay? I'm nearly sure my mate's one had it. Even had the silver heatsheild above the turbo?

Only "problem" by removing that crap is that when it rains (and in england it rains A LOT, poor guys ) you will see more easly the bonnet "smoking" due to water beeing immediatly transformed into vapour because of the heat. Can looks strange, but its ok.

Take it off and it means you see how rusty the underside of the bonnet is

Well mine was mint, and I think every bonnet who had the protection will be fine if the car has been used in normal conditions.

Well as I gather its just there for sound-deadening, together with the bulkhead matting that i'm thinking of replacing as well, so unless it's used as an everyday road car I don't think the extra noise will be an issue really. I'm gonna be heatwrapping manifold and downpipe so don't really see a problem with removing the lot... providing the paint's in good nick it looks much neater imo. But part of me is thinking that as i've got one in good nick I may as well just chuck it on!!!

it's there to sound deaden, not to keep the temps down

if anything, the car will run cooler without a big bit of material stopping the heat from escaping
