I've heard a few stories and opinions about underlay catching fire if its on or bonnet paint going crazy paving style if its left off... but what do the majority of people on here think/do?

My last Saff didn't have it and it was absolutely fine for over 2 years... I prefer the look of it without but i've got a very good condition underlay that needs moving out of the spare room one way or another!!!
