Essentially they are bringing out a car that is going to be roughly the same as the things vauxhall have been selling for years now, whats the point in playing catchup the whole time?
Much gayness at ford, its a shit company for performanc cars these days, bring back the 80s

i agree fwd isnt good enough,i thought they were bringing back the homolagation rule for the wrc and was expecting this next RS focus to be based on the wrc focus.
such a let down, not that id be able to afford one for some time anyway

I went into ford the other day looking into buying a new car as mine was focked in a crash and while i was there i asked about the foci RS. She said it's 290BHP and i said of its 4x4 then? and the woman replied "NO! nobody wants to buy a 290BHP car that 4x4, they wont want to spend the extra money"
I asked her about scoob's and EVO's then.....
Stupid fucking ford

It's just so dissapointing that they haven't done 4WD it's like they're not even trying anymore
. Just pumping out cars to please the masses what a bunch of wankers! I'd read a quote on the internet from the bloke who was overseeing the RS project and he said it would be a no compromise car he was obviously lying. I though it was sosed to be in competition with the new breed of scoobies & evo's obviously not. What a shame they could've had the new escy cosworth
To be fair, with an ATB diff it'll probably still handle sweet. Just like the old FRS did. Also, the bonnet vents look cool. Apparently some of the designers still remember Cossies and RSTs... :th:
Regarding the drivetrain:
I think they made the right decision by sticking with FWD. If they'd made it 4x4 it would have been a direct rival to Scoobies and Evo's. But I really really doubt that Ford would have been able to create an equally refined 4wd system as those used by the Jap brands in such a short time with only little experience.
It would have most likely ended up with 4x4 components from the Jag X-Type or the Volvo range. But those systems main purpose is to add traction, not to make the car go quicker round a track. I'm not entirely sure but I think both systems don't distribute any power to the rear until there's a lack of traction in the front.
Basically we would have ended up with a four-wheel-driven but incredibly heavy and still FWD like handling Focus ST that would have been slaughtered by Scoobies, Evos and probably even the old Focus RS in every single car test. Just like the Golf R32...

A 4x4 version has been seen testing at the Nurburgring
. Probably won;t make production though

its a nice looking car!
some people still think FWD is as crap as it was in the 80's. technology has moved on with suspension and LSD's etc.
i saw an interview with andy rouse where he was saying the 300bhp fwd mk1 mondeo touring car was doing faster lap times than the 500bhp rwd RS500 BTCC cars from the 80's, due to advances in suspension technology.
the whole rwd/4x4 purist thing is getting really boring now.
lets face it ford are never gonna make any more 4x4 or rwd sporty motors so why all act so shocked every time a new model comes out lol

What are you guys bitching about? We wont even see this or any other performance Focus here in the states. We're still stuck with the 2.3 NA Duratec motor, guess Ford figured we here would be happy enough with the MazdaSpeed3.
I agree though, Ford has nothing close to a performance oriented 4WD system much less being able to compete with the likes of Audi, Subaru, Mitsubishi, etc. Just like Ford, always late to the dance...

if ford asked the public what they prefer.. the everyday driver wouldnt give a shit.. if they asked people that are ford, and who are into modifying cars then we would say 4x4 but at the same time we are only a minority compared to the millions they have in mind when buildig the car.
Never mind the drivetrain. Check out the colour.
Oh my eyes.. they're bleeding.. take it away.
I thought ST orange was bad - this is in a whole new league of vomit-ness.
Shame its not 4WD but then who cares. Its never going to have any real racing pedigree is it. Its built from the ground up as a consumer product, a result of think-tanks and market surveys, not a proper race derived car like the cossies that once preceded it.
If you're a genuine enthusiast and want a 4WD/RWD fast ford you're gunna spend your money on a cos. You'd get a real nice one for the price of one of these new bastardised Focuses
