Q. for electricians
I'm after a consumer board out the back to power my swimming pool heater / pump.
Could anyone give me a rough price what i would be expected to pay to have this done, the only problem being that the house consumer board is at the front of the house.
Obviously the prices will be guesses but thats good enough for now.
Cheers

Materials can probably be had for less than £100, depending on what you want on the end of the cable?
You'll probably have to pay for a day's work by the time you include testing.
Not sure how serious the £600 quote was, but it's not really surprising people are still doing this stuff themselves LOL

bit of a hit miss question, without looking at a job as the price could vary,i mean what type of pool is it,as there is all the bonding to be done which costs, price of armoured cable and all other bits to terminate the cable, plus rcd, people go out and do ther own work without considering all the important bits that go with the job which gives us electricians a bad name.sorry for the rant! But i would be looking at around £400 at a guess with no idea what the jobs like.

they can?
heres a REALLY rough idea of how i said £600
materials = £200
labour for 2 men = £300
that leaves £100 for travel, admin costs, profit for the company
but im sure most sparkys are different

You would pay £200-£300 for a domestic consumer unit ?
You can get a 7/7 split board with RCD and breakers for well under £100. He only needs a breaker at the house end.
If the board in the house is RCD protected and has a spare way, then all you need there is a breaker. Then there is the arrnoured to the pool. 50m away and 5kw load either 6mm or 10mm 3 core. Dunno which without doing the calcs. Then the termination/isolator at the pool end. Breakers are around £6. An isolator at the pool end say £20. Dunno how much the armoured will be. Then there is labour. A day for me and a boy would be around £300. Ball park figures obviously.

Thanks for all the replies, i understand without seeing the job it will be hard to put a price to it.
I'm trying to think of otherways to connect the heater whether i connect to the cooker switch as thats RCD protected, there has to be an easier way

£20 isolator
No spare ways in current board??
Cleats??
Rawl plugs??
Screws??
Tails??
Enclosure??
MCB??
RCD??
Conduit??
Trunking??
Test Certificate??
Diesel??
General running costs of a business??
Sounds to me that you need to get someone to give you an estimate. Best thing to do is get 3 and pick the middle one. You need to provide a Part P certificate now when you install anything to do with water and/or electrics. You can do the work yourself but someone or a firm, who is Part P registered, has to check the work done before the certificate is issued. If you don't do something by the book and it has to be redone then your just wasting cash. If someone is Part P registered who does the job, then the certificate will be sorted by them and you don't need to worry about it .
Had a sparky round today for a quote, and the bad news is that a 2nd consumer unit isn't feesable due to the length of the cable run.
What is possible is connecting to the cooker switch as it's on a 40 amp RCD already, running some cable through trunking drilling through the wall then just as the cable is to be run outside changing to SWA.
Just waiting on a quote, although he just rang me back to tell me that the commando 63AMP plug we were going to use is £70, so to save myself money he can hard wire it so i use the switch on the cooker.
Hopefully it wont be too much
