any one know ruffie how long it takes to swop the inturnals of a series2 box into a series1 please?

 

Depends on how familiar you are with gearboxes and if the 5th gear comes of easily or not.

If you haven't done it before, let someone show you who knows what he/she is doing.

Can be done in a couple of hours providing that the 5th gear doesn't stick on very bad.

 

my brother just done mine for me. didnt take too long. box was out, stripped, built and fitted again on a saturday. 5th gear is a bollocks though

 

If you just want to you can swap just the middle casing (the mount bit on the s1 case) job done. As said 5th gear is a fucker to get off tho.

You will proably need a decent puller to remove the 5th gear and apart from that its quite straight forward. If you just want to swap over the case for the series one engine mount then you can leave the shafts and selector mechanism in the lower gearbox casing.

One thing to remember is take note of the direction of the slot in the end of the 5th/reverse gear selector rod. When you are rebuilding the box and fitting the 5th gear selector you will have to turn the selector rod clockwise before tightning the pinch bolt. If you dont turn it you will have no 5th or reverse gear or no gears at all as it will jam the selector mechanism.

fifth gear can be an absolute C*&T!!

i use a puller that has two wide flat legs that go around both sides of the gear , and two 8" g glamp that i hold the legs together with. With a buddy holding the g clamp and bracing himself , i use an electric impact wrench and much swearing

 

not bothering now buying a new box just seems a lot easyier lol
