How long does it take to fit two auxillary belts to a V8 motor (1993 M60 lump).

My car's in what I thought was a good indy having some other bits sorted and I received a call this morning telling me that '' the fan belt requires replacing''............... I gave the go ahead and come pound note time they wanted £140 telling me they have replaced both auxillary belts (£50 the pair) which according to eurocarparts (who are in the unit next door) these can be had for £20 and they wanted an hours labour to fit ?

Told them I'm not paying and to remove them and we'll call it quits

 

if that is main dealer prices that is about right you pay for the expertise of the dealer plus all the other overheads that smaller garages dont have.

 

No small garage m8, aside from the labour I could of walked into euro's next door and got the two belts for a few pennies over £20 (branded contitech as well) whereas they were trying to charge £50. They should be getting them at trade as well !!! instead they were trying to rip me for nearly three times the retail !!!

And guess what response I got when I pointed all this out ?

''We don't get our parts from there''....................... !!!

1hrs labour is correct. I've changed mine all in 1hr.

 

On an m60 lump its about half an hour TOPS!

So I would not being going there again.

 

Maybe they're from bmw?
