Which is better ?????
I have a drilled airbox on my S2 at the moment, the car will have stage 1 conversion next month, so im unsure which filter to put on the car ? Do i stick with the standard drilled air box (with jetex panel filter), or do i buy a K&N induction or a pipercross induction foam filter ? Peoples experiences needed please which they have found to get the best results.
Cheers

nobody has tested the figures on the road, only the dyno, where its hot. the airbox performs well due to shielding the panel filter where as a cone filter sucks in a bit of heat in the engine bay as there isnt the same cooling air you get when driving forwards, theres nothing like driving on the open road.
yes i agree the airbox works well, but cone filters on dyno tests are very close to the results seen using airboxes, the results on the road would be alot better which would prob make the cone filter become a better choice than an airbox ( most reviews actually state this fact too ), in traffic where the heat builds up the airbox would again be better ( like on a dyno ) due to no cool air but once your on the move your ok.........its the same with front mount air to air intercoolers, when your in traffic you get heat soak but once your going again your ok where as a charge cooler probably cools better when in traffic or for those short bursts on the drag strip.
oh and the induction roar is an added benifit too.

What do you mean noone has tested it? These aren't new cars, they've been around over 20 years! Many tests have been done, on the road, on engine dynos, on hub dynos, on rolling roads (ergh).. The facts are the standard airbox works the best for ACT's.

ok then einstein, please enlighten me and show a proper test with actual results ( not around town, "it feels well better" ). magazines always check the difference on dyno`s not the road and also state that better inlet temps would be visible on the road when using a cone filter over it being used on a dyno ie it would therefore also make more power and because of how close the two perform on the dyno it would prob mean it being better for all out power.
at the end of the day it doesnt matter if the car is 20 years old or brand new, until a creditable person does a test and publishes the results for on the road temps and power we will never know, we are all just relying on what our tuner recommends or what we, as individuals, prefer.
maybe the best of both worlds would prob be a custom enclosure around a cone filter.
