nobody has tested the figures on the road, only the dyno, where its hot. the airbox performs well due to shielding the panel filter where as a cone filter sucks in a bit of heat in the engine bay as there isnt the same cooling air you get when driving forwards, theres nothing like driving on the open road.
yes i agree the airbox works well, but cone filters on dyno tests are very close to the results seen using airboxes, the results on the road would be alot better which would prob make the cone filter become a better choice than an airbox ( most reviews actually state this fact too ), in traffic where the heat builds up the airbox would again be better ( like on a dyno ) due to no cool air but once your on the move your ok.........its the same with front mount air to air intercoolers, when your in traffic you get heat soak but once your going again your ok where as a charge cooler probably cools better when in traffic or for those short bursts on the drag strip.
oh and the induction roar is an added benifit too.
