I have just installed iTunes...

...and it is converting.

What exactly is it doing, seems to be running through every song and taking forever to do so?

I don't have a clue with things like this. Anybody care to enlighten me as to what it is or could be doing?

Possibly adjusting your songs from Mp3 or WMA format etc to its own AAP format so it can play them on an Ipod ?

Bearing in mind iPods can play MP3 format, seems a bit pointless really

It'll most likely be converting whatever audio files you have in AAC. This is Apples proprietry music format, like Windows is WMA. No real point to it, but Apple is as fickle about this stuff as Windows is

Personally I would have changed the option about converting before scanning for music or loading your tunes into the library......
