Insurace write off???????
Well im hoping someone might be able to help me.
My grandad had an accident in his car a few weeks back and the insurance company has told them they have written the car off without going into to much detail. My question is can the insurance company write off your car while you are still driving it and retain all of the documents? as we have found a body shop that will repair it and not wite it off but the assessor said we cannot as it has already been written off. How can this be? Is the assessor talking shit

The assesor is talking the truth and lying!!
Who OWNS the car ?, you do, if the insurers consider it is beyond ECONOMICAL repair they will call it a write off.
This ONLY means they will not pay the repair bill, as it is more than the car is worth etc.
Firstly you are quite LEGALLY allowe to arrange your own repairs as the car is yours, UNLESS you accept the money being offered to you by the insurer, you can then NEGOTIATE to either accept the money offered, LESS the cost of the SALVAGE(car) that you KEEP from them, most ar emore than happy to do this as it cuts thier costs down, for storage disposal etc.
OR you can say what will you pay me to repair it.
Remember it is YOUR car, YOUR property, NOBODY can write a car off unless you accept the money, it will THEN become the property of the insurance company.
A write off is a scary(for some) term that means nothing more than, "too expensive to repair", bearing in mind it's value once repaired.

my sister had this, her corsa was written off by the insurance company, they offered her 1200 for the car (she only bought it for 1k a year ealier).
Basically, she kept the car, was still insured with them, they simply gave her the 1200 that was classed as as much as they would offer towards repair bills.
She drove it for another few months and sold it for 350 notes, so in the end got 1550 for it!! There may have been a 100 excess IIRC.
speak to your insurance and do a deal with them, as said, better to pay you an amount that you can either use to repair or replace, than have to remove you car etc etc.

unless its something thats worth money in salvage they will pay you out and say its up to you to dispose of the car, if they cat c it you will have to get it vic tested then obv have it repaired.
nothing hard just let em make ya an offer then go fromt here, once they make a offer just slip intot he conversation so what do i do with my old car.

anyway, what you need to do is contact VOSA and explain to them, they will check the car, and if theyre happy they and un-write it off. as long as you havnt taken a settlement fron insurance, if you have you will need to buy it back from them.
when a woman pulled out on me on a 60mph road, and wrote off my wifes pug, after the police had been we dragged the car 2 miles home with the landy, as once its on a tow truck its basically not ur car anymore. was funny after the first mile as the the front nearside tyre was locked. the whole road was tyre smoke and metal sparks for the last mile

anyway i got £2500 from her insurance co and as i dragged the car home i still owned it and i broke the engine/ g box and a few other unbroken bits and made another £300. car was only worth £1k max

vosa will not "un write it off"
if its a cat c it will need a vic check, which is a chassis number and a engine number check, and thats it
you will also not need to buy it back if its of cheap value, they should just keave it to you to dispose of, asling to buy it back from the start is great in there eyes as they just reduce for it. say noting until they make an offer, before you accept just ask them what happoens to your old car can i keep it
