Default Oil Cooler Question.........

For those that have RS Turbo's with Oil Coolers, did you remove the standard Water Cooled Sandwich plate? Or do you run both??

Std sandwitch plate acts as an oil heater as well initially. Takes my car maybe 8 mins to get upto correct water temp, the oil usually reaches 180F under light load, but takes much longer than 8 mins. If u remove the sandwitch - its going to take a lot longer for ur oil to warm up and work as it should. Id keep it, and have a thermostatically controlled mocal style as well.

Thanks Rick.

By the way, do those Standard Sandwich plates ever go wrong? (Block up for example? Or become inefficient?)

Hmmmm, interesting.

I can't think of any reason why 2 similar RS Turbo's would run very different Oil Temps even when not under load.

My only theory was that perhaps that Oil Sandwich plate was blocked or something?

I ran both on mine but the thermo type plate is a bad idea because after it opens oil pressure drops ,if you set oil pressure with it closed to have correct pressure when its hot the pressure would have to be very high. Guess thats as clear as mud.
my new 1 has no water cooled or heater on it if that helps lol

might cya next weekend m8 as i have stuff to get from near you but i guess you know anyways

See what u mean Tim - I guess u need a pump that can flow more and maintain a pressure.

Same Oil, Same Gauges.

The car with Better Oil Temps, also has good Water temps. This car has a Standard Radiator

The other car has a brand new Alloy Rad and has High Oil Temps and also high water temps.

i was gonna say the rad maybe the prob as oil is the main engine cooler and water just helps out.if the rads got a flow prob or somewhere else in the system then the oils workin overtime

i know that if ur water temp rises, the oil temp rises quite a bit too. If the car gets to the warmer temp quickly - it'll be a water problem, if it takes a while, then it'll be oil.
