anyone know how much BHP you lose through the gearbox on a cvh lump?

was thinking that sort of thing myself, a mate said 25, seemed a bit low number to me, what sort of bhp at the wheels would be a good number for my festa rs turbo? its not standard, got a 195 chip in ( might be playing up) and all the shit you need with a 195 plus a pace intercooler

25bhp on my old gearbox (before it smashed itself to pieces) well, actually 25.7

seems to be differnt sort of figures here, does it depend on the car/gearbox or can all be different?

i was al;ways told it was about 10% of the flywheel fig for a FWD car......

Get the power at the wheels figure , divide by 0.90, + 10 HP and you should roughly have the BHP figure. Any more loss than this is either a problem with the transmission, lack of traction or just plain lies.

An RS Turbo transmission loses around 30bhp. This varies depending on the ambient temperature, the type/temperature of the tyres, the temperature of the gearbox oil (the transmission loss will decrease with back-to-back runs) and whether the Rolling Road operator wants to inflate the Flywheel figure by tweaking the footbrake on the coast-down.

Hope this helps.

IMO this figure shouldn't change as the horsepower increases, because the car still has the same drivetrain, regardless of the horsepower.
