Default when you SORN a car do you need insurance and mot?

as above. i doubt it but thought id ask as i aint done it before like.

tax is up on cossie at end of oct, am taking it off the road until next year now, thing is the insurance runs out before the tax so i cant take the cert i now have (i am insuring it again whilst iots off the road but i dont have cover note yet)

any ideas?

you dont have to as it will be off the road

and if ya havent got tax insurance is voied anyway

correct - no tax or insurance needed _BUT i would keep it insured - tell them its off road, will probably drop the policy significantly - for example - my escos is insured at the moment on a garage policy (150 quid for the year - damage, fire, and theft) whether its in the garage, on a trailer or being transported about. you be gutted if your 15K£ went up in smoke and was not insured .

No mate you just take the tax form to the Post office and they sort it for you.

As above Matt simply tick the box on the Tax form which says the car is Sorn, the post office scan the document and hand you it back , no need for any other certificates to be shown!

but do remember to take it of the road as i found out last week it costs minimum 200 quid once its lifted

its always in the fookin garage anyway cos of the shite weather, take it out in the rain and it would soon be off the road permenantly

You also have to renew the SORN if its off the road longer than 12 months aswell

How d'ya go about doing a garage policy then?? As mines been off the road for sometime now and this aint something that had even crossed my mind!!
