Hic quoted me £450 Full comp, everything declared with agreed valuation etc with a power increase upto to 225bhp, without nos its 200bhp.

but just because the power increase is using nos, they wanting £950 full comp, or i can go tpft for £80 cheaper
tempted to rip it out again

problem is they only have 2 insurers that would cover nitrous

anyone else with nos have an insurer thats a bit cheaper?!

 

Adrian flux are normally a bit more reasonable, but as far as im aware they ONLY cover Wizards kits due to legal/quality issues with the american ones.

 

its stupid the cost of insuring NOS, for something that isnt getting used very often.

Agreed, but I suspect the claims records for people using it arent good.

 

If you have the bottle isolated from the lines then surely your nitrous is only used on the track??

 

Its still a modification, after all you only use a rollcage if you crash but you have to declare it even on days when you dont crash

 

I would just paint the bottle red and call it a plumbed in fire extinguisher system.

Well if you had a crash you wouldnt be insured, so why bother insuring it at all, just print a cover note out on your PC at home, still be illegal and save a fortune.

Yes of course it would.

They ask you "does the car have any modifications from standard"

That includes stickers / brakes / cages / wiring / plumbing / whatever


So of course half a nitrous kit counts as "modified"

On a serious note i did consider printing one off to tax my bike when the cover note didn't turn up the before a really sunny weekend!!

 

is it hard to completely remove the whole kit in the event of an accident?

and you said you wouldnt be using it on the road so why have it in if you arent going to be using it? if its going to be used for drag/track stuff how often do you go? is it viable for you to be getting it in and out every time?

 

as chip has said, everything would need to be taken out including electrics.
nylon piping is something i wouldnt like to keep installing and re-installing at trackside let alone electics

Removing it is easy, removing it in a secure compound theyve moved it to to investigate when you are in hospital, isnt.

 

both of my crashes the car has ended up on my front lawn straight away, and they came to inspect it here too

true say, ive looked at it that way too mate still not bad end of the day as im in london too.
but also im 31, had car for 10 years, and never had an accident!
so i think £500 increase is taking the piss a bit
if i gained 25bhp any other way it would'nt cost me £500 extra and id have that power available all the time, the nitrous bottle lasts 11 minutes!
ive spoken to Hic again, they are trying a difffernt route because i have 2 cars, 1 has full no claims bonus/9years! and the fiesta has 3 years.
see what happens now

 

To be honest mate, if that was me, I wouldnt pay it and take it out. In essence you are doubling your premium for a nitrous kit and 25bhp. That's two fiesta RSTs with mods up to 200bhp declared for the price of one with a 25bhp shot of nitrous.

And as you say 31 y/o with full no claims and the rest of it. Not worth it in my eyes.

On another note, I'm always in and around southgate. Never seen a red RS though. Whereabouts are you close to?

 

Just remove most of it and have it so its a easy fit for track days etc.

im rarely in southgate as i work in Barnet
however keep an eye out for me up and now the north circ

 

will do. i fuel at the palmers green shell and regularly around the backroads of arnos grove/bounds green and do travel up to high barnet occasionally too

£432 full comp everything declared, limited to 4k miles pa, defo cant argue with that.

I would guess the main issue with Nitrous is its ability to set fire to everything in the car, turning a small crash into a fairly substantial fire!

 

rich, it's the fact the floor pan flys off the car when you use it that causes the danger.
