Escort Cosworths sold by UK Ford dealers:

1992 total 310 cars

1993 total 330 cars

AFAIK August 1st (1993) onwards would have been K plate cars

Spiky

given the closeness of the reg the car was probably a press demo that then got converted to a rally car later on, either by Ford or one of the privateers

As it was a lux has the current shell got the factory underseal and seam sealer, if not then it was probably reshelled into a motorsport shell by the original convertors

DVLA owner check should confirm if this is the case

Spiky!!!! Much excitement

I KNEW that I had seen that reg before somewhere, and in my book "The Cosworth Fords" (bt Jeremy Walton) there is a pic of one of the press launch Es Cossies (Ford owned it of course at this stage), being driven around Brands Hatch.

The cars shown in the pics are J988 BPU, and parked up is J996 BPU.........Not your reg number I know BUT it was one of a fleet of Ford owned cars with reg numbers in sequence!.

and DAMN, DAMN for weeks since you bought your car I was thinking "why do I know that reg number" lololol

Pics posted below now

One of the UK motor magazines could well have been loaned YOUR car by Ford Spiky - to use for a road test article/long term test....So one of the mags would have published pictures of the car you now own, possiblly even a pic of it on the front cover.....

Remember the launch of the Escort Cosworth was BIG news back then, every UK mag would have got their hands on one of those early press cars for a feature article!!!!

Spiky

I have an autocar in the attic of my other house which did a feature on the escos when it first came out and I am pretty sure it was a white one.

Problem is I cannot get back there until the middle of next month when I change over tenants but I will go up and dig it out then.
