is it possible to run a piper 285 cam on the existing standard followers,or would you recommend standard replacements or piper ones????

Best to fit all new bits together but not essential if all surfaces are good.
Speak to piper as the cam profile may need a different(stronger) tappet, for higher rpm.

ive heard piper cams aren't a very good cam mate as the have been copied from kent or someone but had to change the lift etc for copyright reasons resulting in a not very good camshaft, anyone else heard this? just thought id let you know incase you havnt yet purchased it?

The bit about cam timing figures being copyright is odd, never heard that before, no doubt just another dodgy rumour.
Burton cams are copied by piper and kent, but it is just a lumpy stick with nobbly bits on it anyway.
I have used reground, and new piper and kent/butons/newman, never had a problem with any.

Different profile then, the car does NOT know what make of cam is in it.
TWO cams of EXACTLY the same profile will perfom exactly the same.
