it seems to stay on for way too long( up to 15 miles) keeping the idle at nearly 2000rpm. when the car gets up to temp it goes down to 1000rpm but it just comes back on in the middle of a journey and back up to 2000rpm. i wondered if you could disable it until i could get it looked at . any ideas what could be causing this also welcome. thanks its a 89 s2.

poss air leak
also it could be the auxirly (spelling) valve under the inlet try cleaning this out

 

Just unplug it, mine did the same thing. Harder to start when cold (use a bit of throttle) but much better when warmed up.
