Default Power Output

Took my car down to my local engine tuner in Plymouth called Allen Jeffery, as the car felt a little sluggish.

It was put on the rollers and only managed 238bhp, its running the Graham Goode 330BHP with greens.

The tuner said that the car was only holding 1 bar of boost and dropping off and that the fueling was to rich.
There advice was the car needs a full rebuild and new loom. This cost was just under 4k

Could anyone advice me of a couple of things i have noticed.

1. Towards the front of the engine Bay there is a wire with bronze stuff on it and a electric wire hanging down

I have noticed that the lead that plugs on to the turbo acauator is not connected, someone mentioned that this is the problem as the way it is set up would show why i am only getting 1bar of boost and not the 1.5 bar.

What would people do to sort this problem out.
Seem to being ripped of by people for not knowing a grea deal about engines, just want some honest advice on this, i will get some pics and see if anyone could help

looks like you need a new amel valve' and the pipe that is off looks like the one to go in to the original air box so that don't matter

as Miller says, the bronze part is the boost control solenoid, if you wern't so far away we could have a look & advise you on what needs doing. For what reason did they say it needs a rebuild?

The engine tuner felt to get 330bhp, he would rebuild it and fit a new loom. The car has only covered 54k and was never abused by my father. Really am very disapointedto say the least.

So if i need a new amel valve what sort of cost are these and where do i buy them

The spare pipe that i have found is nothing to worry about this pipe is connected to the amel valve at one end and loose at the other, is this correct then, as i was told that this was why i was not boosting at 1.5

The spare pipe is nothing to worry about.

Only different from sitting in the air box and in free air is that your engine will reuse the air that comes out of is.

Amal valve: think you can still get it from ford. else this one.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/cosworth-4x4-a...QQcmdZViewItem can se you got another type of plug and this valve is for a sierra so you need to get one for an escos

Think you need to take your can to another tuner that the one you have been on the rollers at. dosn't seem to know much about cosworth.

i very much doubt you need a rebuild bud.sound slike they are pulling a fast one.
as said a new amal valve and a trip further up the country to a decent tuner will be your best bet.travelling may seem a pest but is worth it for the right service mate

As the good people on here have said he is a cowboy, you cannot possibly judge and engines health with these problems already.
Go elsewhere, at that mileage unless the previous owner was a rally driver part time will be fine if looked after.

Thanks guys,

The car was never abused by dad and was maintained to a very high standard. Can anyone recommend a decent tuner that is not miles away fro devon. I also dont want the car being away for weeks and also dont want to be spending loads of money.

Regards

Gareth

That is disgusting-ONLY take it to someone who knows these cars otherwise there is a good chance they will try to pull your pants down, like the chap you took it to.

pisses me off when some try to rip people off, why not just help people

today we had an FRST in for a tune that was pissing oil from the turbo oil return, we couldn't tune it like that so instead of turning him away (he had driven from Bristol to West London) we trimmed the hose back a bit, found a more suitable clip & sorted it, didn't charge him any extra, he was really happy, just what we aim for

Why the fuck would it need a rebuild just cause its not holding boost cause of a dodgy amal valve?!

Either they were talking utter shit, or you havent given us enough info about what they really found.

Take guzzler up on his offer, its a long way to drive, but at least you'll get an honest opinion of the car.

Why not go back to Reyland where you initially had a fair bit of work carried out on the car when you first got it.

did he not sort out a few gauge goodies and brakes/wheels for you ?

Sorry but that allan jeffry sounds like a right cunt ...How can they even call themselves proffesional when they don't even know how a solenoid works or can't spot a basic fault like the amal valve fallen apart ??? Absolutly disgraceful, if they don't know what they are doing they should refuse the job

just a word of advice alan jefferys is expensive. he is a nice guy though and polite like. i took my 4x4 there and it only made 228 bhp when not to long before hand it was 260 which i was happy with and it was previously set up to. they said the actuator was knackered got a new actuator like yours garreth589 so hopefullyit will sort it once set up. other garages around the area say hes only interested in his rolling road. it cost me 450 quid the other week to have the cv joints at the wheel and the diff side replaced on the front near side. does anyone think thats a lot?

does sound expensive but arent the joints over £100 each plus the requirement for new boots and thats ebay prices, where did they get the joints from? Ford? Sounds to me like the price was parts plus mabe 2-4 hours labour depending on the hourly rate, obviously 4 hours would be far to long for that job though.
