sound insulation
anyone know about sound insualtion in houses, basically to stop airborne sound travelling from downstairs to upstairs.
we have designed the joists to reduce this but are looking at sound deadening to go inbetween the floors
ive found this site

has anyone experience of stuff like this and is it effective?

something as simple as a stippled artex celing finish will reduce shit loads of it.. if you have a flat celing noise penetrates it easily, if its rough and spiky its difficult as the noise hits in hundereds of different angles and at different times causing phasing and makes things seem much less noisy,
you can also fit spikes to the top of the joists where the floor boards sit for upstairs this will stop lower-end noise from being passed.
acoustic foam or insalation wont do too well as its not in direct contact with the source sound.
double thickness plaster on the celing is another option...

A job i worked where it was renovating flats had to have sound insulation installed, and the stuff we used came in bags of stones. I'm sure they weren't actual stones, but they looked like stones, and felt like stones. I'll try and find the name of it 2mrw.
It was an absolute fortune though. And we used tons of the stuff
