cam belts
Hi need to get a new cambelt is it best to fit new tensioner aswell and would a grp a one be best to fit ,and the tensioners i see you can get 2 types genuine one and aftermarket what would be best .......thanks
Cambelt is easy to do, if you can do that sort of thing, certainly no harder than most, although tensioner needs setting manually as not automatic.
I used a genuine one(std) belt/tensioner, but would not hesitate to use a decent pattern one.
FORD never made cambelts, so they may even be from the same people anyway.
Just make sure phase sensor alignment stays bang on as just one tooth out will throw a wobbly with injection timing.

aftermarket will be ok if you get a gates belt & ina tensioner, thats what you get from Ford. Deffo change the tensioner as well, its not worth not changing it for the price.
Last week my power steering pump loosened up, dropped down half an inch so a metal pipe coming off it was rubbing on the bottom pulley and cambelt. Talk about a shit bit of design! Started eating into the belt.
So had a new belt yesterday, didn't use a tensioner though as the belt damage was obviously well before it's normal lifespan.
