Default Just wondering...

Just want to say first of all I am NOT thinking of doing or have done anything like this but...

I was just sitting thinking about my car insurance as I have been reading a lot of stories regards to car insurance on the net and in newspapers etc and was wondering: when they ask you have you had any claims within the last 5 years (your own fault or not) and you say no you haven't when you have, then how do they find out in the event of a claim?

Thanks

When you take out insurance you authorise them to share information with other insurance companys. Fraud prevention is one of the reasons stated, they also share information on claims etc too.

Wont matter to them untill you claim, so if you want to give them your money knowing you get a piece of paper for it, but wont ever be able to make a claim then that up to you ! As sure they will happily take your money for a bit of paper knowing they wont have to actually pay out if the need ever arose.

Up to you to wonder on that

If one were to just remember about a claim they had, had in the past im sure phoning and bringing the matter to their attention would be met with approval.
Chances are that they knew about it anyway and had included it in your premium.

cheers guys. like I said purely hypothetical. its cos I was just thinking that a lot of people forget or do not realize they have to declare their points and as logn as you dont claim you can get away with it and they eventually clear off your licence and 5 years elapses. was just wondering whether its the same story with claims.

as with most of the information, it is your responsibility to inform them.

But, when a claim arises, they will then look at the information you gave and check it, is the car hpi clear, have you any conviction, it is modified etc etc.

As sia, if you lie, then your really just buying a bit of paper.
