Default Running fault when cold

Hi ive got a saff 4x4 cossie on a J reg. Its got a stage 2 chip, greens. When i start the car up from cold it runs ok but as soon as i start to drive the car,it goes on its own without touching the Throttle pedal. It feels as if the choke is on. I drove to work this morning(it was really cold/frost) and it started doing it. On the way home from work it was fine. Has anyone had this fault before. Any help would be nice.

A work mate of mind has an escort rs turbo and he said his car run like a bag of shite when the engine was cold. He said he changed the anti freeze and it was spot on after that. I changed the water temp sensor over a year ago. The engine is also running rich, i was thinkin about taking it to work and getting the CO level back to where it should be.

If i leave the car to idle when its cold the car does rev up and down on its own. I sometimes start the car up let it run then go back in the house to get a few bits and pieces, and like i said the car revs up and down on its own. The neighbours must think the car is mad for doing this.I will try disconnecting the valve and try again when engine is cold.

Sounds like it is running lean, so check CO first, the fact that it goes up and own says the valve is working as this is what it does.

Im really thinking about getting the CO checked at work and putting it back to where it should be(normal). I wanna get it set up properly at the end of the year but for the time being i just want it right. Ive had this problem over nearly a year now. Thanks for the comments people and keep them coming.

I went to work in my car this morning (weather was raining but not that cold)and it was spot on no reving up and down on its own and no jerking when driving. Im thinking it could be the water temp sensor faulting when its really really cold.
