4500 for a car needing set up allegedly there could be something wrong with it for 4500 i would expect a decent cosworth with history, taxd, motd and running correctly i just bought a 51k miler 4x4 minted for 5500 so if i was you i would shop around and you will easy find a nice one just take someone with you to have a lookey if your not sure what to look for cos a lot of people spoof and tell porkies to get rid of their MINT car good luck with the hunt

i would start at around 3k but if the engine and body is good ts worth more

but at the end of the day its got no mot and it will more than likely need stuff like welding doing, abs sorting for the mot

Correct me if wrong but arent 2wd saffs in black quite rare?? like a only a dozen or so made??

If it aint road worthy i wouldnt pay £4500 for it. £3500 tops if it was a good one.

rot around rear arches, around sun roof, inner sills, rear spring mounts

ABS light comes on and goes out within around 40 secs

oil leaking at rear of block to head

smoke on and off /over run boost but can't check as it has no mot

gearbox should be tight but not rough 3 rd and 4th gear are known to fail

tbh mate if you looking to spend around 4k you will find a good cossy

i have missed loads but its a good start for things to look for

As said get someone with you who knows about these cars, even if you have to bung em a few quid.
Bodywork can cost big time, as can engine problems, rear arches can easily cost £500 to put right, sills rot, remember how old these are, why is it black, as said rare colour, is it using a respray to cover a shed of a shell ?
Don't even think about any offer until you hear the engine running, even one with shagged rings will sound great and drive great, as oil rings generally go first, so drive well but drink oil nearly as fast as petrol.
Maybe say to him you will give him what you think it is worth, plus the MOT fee, if he puts 12 months mot on it, he knows the FULL story, if it were just the lack of MOT he would MOT it and sell it without even really needing to advertise it.
Does it actually run ?

As said, it could need a new shell and a new engine. No MoT? Nope, don't like that for £4.5k.

Just to say that the engine bay does look like someone with knowledge has put it together with most of the right bits on show. Remember that it isn't standard so it will need specialist setting up. Its this uncertainty that devalues it for me. Who did it it all?? receipts??

Also not mentioned yet, Is it a genuine cossy? Logbook etc and shell stamp (flap by side of drivers seat) and chassis plate all match?
