Engine swap!
Whats the easiest way to fit my new S2 Engine and gearbox?
Drop the engine and gearbox out the bottom and put the new one in?
Or drop the gearbox first and lift the engine out the top?
I'm thinking out the bottom!
Any opinions or experiences welcome!
Thanks!

I'll be hiring a engine hoist but also have access to a lift, so it can all come out the top together yeah?
Also I want to set the fuelling and timing up so i can drive it to my tuners (16 miles away) any advice?
Thanks!

I fitted my engine in through the top and in my personal opinion it was a right ball ache, its a tight old squeeze manouvering the engine and box round past the brake servo whilst avoiding the strut top on the opposite side of the bay.
If its easy for you to get the car in the air then out the bottom is what i would do, the engine would of been fitted below from the factory, and since when have production lines employed a more than necessarily complicated method

i would say either way is just as hard as each other. when i did mine 3 times me and my mate did it with a scaff bar. if you got a hoist it will be a piece of piss, is the one your putting in allright coz when i puit 1 in it was fcuked

Out the bottom, done hundreds over the years and far less chance of scratching paint etc. Dont forget as above, the antiroll bar has to come of but you have to virtually remove it anyway to get the driveshafts out, only takes 5 mins.
My opinion anyway.
My opinion anyway.
Think i'll go with out the bottom then!
Its a fully rebuilt engine, with ported and polished head, piper BP285T2 and lifters, and a vernier (everything else is standard).
Just trying to find a gearbox now, mines sloppy as fuck!
Any suggestions about setting the timing to get it up the my tuners? Didnt come with a dizzy so am fitting mine, should i just twist it until it runs a smoothly as i can get it to? (the cam belt and vernier are already where they need to be cos it's just been run in)
